Mr Kiwi

How do I fix this issue.
I am using windows 7 and the newest version of dosbox.

Any help would be awesome.
It only happens on loading screens.

Mr. K

I think an older version of DOSBox is the only way to go to fix that.  I remember it was never like that before, but then I upgraded to 0.72 and played Lemmings on it way later and noticed this problem.  And it's not just a Windows 7 issue: I've run DOSBox on XP and also OS X Tiger and they both exhibit this.

Mr Kiwi

Yeah, I guess 100% emulation might not happen; unless, I bust out my old dos PC. At this point tho, I would rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty spork then try and get that piece of crap working.

Mr Kiwi

Hehe, I know...

But I used to make lemmings video's and minor things like that bugged me.

Guess we all have our quirks; even tho mine is a misguided one.   http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/winktounge.gif" alt=";P" title="Wink-Tongue" class="smiley" />

Everyone has a version of Lemmings which they enjoy playing the most. For me, it's the Master System version. I'd be pretty peeved off if the level screen was screwed up - it has some pretty important information on it.

The DOSBox error makes the level screen pretty hard to read, so it's not really suitable for videoing.

I wouldn't call your quirk misguided, Mr Kiwi, you're striving for perfection.

The Doctor

A nice solution is to use Tandy mode graphics and sound. The title screens are simplified in TGALEMMI.EXE.

This means that there's no chance of the graphics going haywire, at the cost of using 16 colours only. Of course, you may say that this is a degradation. Those people who actually used Tandy machines or IBM PCJrs back in the 80s will disagree, and will say they don't know what the difference is.

Plus, the music is nicer. :-P

If you do go down this road, check out the music thread on DOSBox.

This Lemmings forum is simply *fabulous*!

You can go back to at least http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=52551&package_id=46709" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">Dosbox 0.50, dated 2002-07-24 http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" class="smiley" />

This problem can be fixed if you get the newly-released DOSBox 0.73. You will need to change the machine setting to vgaonly. This also lets you use the High Performance PCs mode without any color issues.

Awesome, I'll have to try that out sometime. http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/thumbsup.gif" alt="" title="Thumbs Up" class="smiley" /> I never thought they'd get around to actually implementing that support in DOSBox, since I believe what happens is that the game does a trick with the palette in those cases (which is why you get screwed up colors in older versions of DOSBox when it doesn't emulate the video hardware to that level of detail).

That works perfectly! http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/thumbsup.gif" alt="" title="Thumbs Up" class="smiley" />

However, there's a little row of pixels at the bottom of the level that is messed up, but that's not a huge problem.

Increase the cycles to fix that.

It's done in the config file. If you don't know what that is, check the readme file, the start menu (assuming you're using Windows), and the DOSBox directory. I can't help you much further than that.

Dullstar

I notice the color problem was only fixed in Windows (or only ignored in Linux).  Does anyone know if it's been fixed on Mac OS X?
