Hello all,

I'm running NeoLemmix V12.14 on Linux Ubuntu, through the Wine (Windows emulator) program.

Everything works about fine, except that the Fast Forward option does not work.
The shortcut (4 or 5 by default) does not make the game faster. I can toggle on and off the dedicated button in the extended toolbar, but the game still runs at the same speed too.

Also worth noting that sometimes the game starts to lag quite a bit, drops in FPS. I then have to reboot to make it run at correct speed again.

Anyone experienced this with Linux+Wine and could give some help about those issues ?

Hello,

I am no wine user, but I might have an idea.

Are you using the high quality minimap?

If it is turned on it could be that fast forward is quite ineffective. Try turning it off in the options and see if this improves it.

Welcome to the forums Guigui!

What's your system spec?

Turning off HQ minimap and hi-res mode can help, for sure.

Thank you for the answers, turns out I now have a correctly running NeoLemmix through Wine on Ubuntu. Things I did and how it helped for those who might need it :

* went to fullscreen mode (despite Wine warning against it). Turned off all the Ubuntu thingies like toolbars and such that refused to go away while fullscreen.
This solved most of the problems at once : no more lag, and fast forward works almost all the time. When it does not, I need to Zoom In and Out a couple times and Fast Forward becomes effective again. Who knows ?

* turned off HQ minimap (high-res was already off). FPS seems a little better and I did not experience the need zoom and out for Fast Forward to work.

So all is fine now.

On another subject, I did play throught the whole Genesis Lemmings game as a kid and really enjoyed it, that's why I'm coming back to Lemmings after all those years. I can quite quickly clear the Lemmings Redux levels as they work about like Genesis games.

I also definitely love the plethora of users-made levels, good job but Gosh !, some of them are quite tough for me. Currently stuck at only level 3 of Kieran's Quest : The Tree of Life...

[EDIT] : oh well, right after posting this I launched the game again and cleared the Tree of Life. That's what I love about Lemmings, they have you think even when you're not playing. Hint for this one : trees are good, do not destroy them.

I should note: It's not WINE warning against this, but NL itself. Not sure if it's still the case nowdays, but at one point NL's fullscreen mode didn't play nicely with some Linux desktop managers, so if NL detects that it's running in WINE, it shows a warning message (and whereas it defaults to fullscreen on Windows if there's no existing configuration, it defaults to windowed when it detects WINE).
