Competitive Multiplayer Levels
« on: July 18, 2024, 08:14:59 pm »
Hello everyone, after playing Lix and lurking on the forum and IRC channel for many years I am finally releasing a selection of 140 183 levels created, mainly 2P, many with unlimited functions.

I have roughly another 100 but they use custom tiles so it will take some time to convert them.
:crylaugh:

Edit: I replaced the zip file with a new one with 10 additional levels
Edit2: I replaced the zip file with more levels, naming following Simon's request, and amending some of the levels as requested

Yes, we are childhood friends and have been playing multiplayer Lemmings since Amiga (1992)!
Quite a few years back we found Lix and as an online multiplayer version with a level editor, we were instantly hooked! We still play very often.

Welcome DanielOakfield, welcome to the community :lix-smile:

Nice to see more people who are playing the Lix multiplayer. We play the Lix multiplayer as a group on average once every 1-2 months, the sessions are always posted on here a few weeks in advance. We should be due one in the next month or so.

In the meantime, if you have any sessions you would like to let us know about then please let us know. I'm sure me, Simon and geoo would be interested in playing if we know about it in advance.

You can let us know in the IRC channel or by posting here on the forums in the Lix Multiplayer Dates subforum

I'm always up for playing if I'm available :lix-cool:

I'll take a look at the levels you posted over the next few days and tell you what I think of them. Regarding the custom tiles, if it's not copyrighted material and is hi-resolution then it should be ok to use them in the Lix engine, it's ultimately up to Simon if they get added to the Lix download in the future if that is your intention.

Thanks!

I've already played matches with you a week ago, and you've clearly grown strong outside our regular forum sessions. Nice!

Your maps play distinct from the standard fare that we've included in Lix, and that makes them a fresh take. geoo will rage that you give 10 walkers instead of 80 (he'll run out immediately) and 50 blockers instead of 0 (he doesn't like them), but that's the flavor then.

I recommend not to hide things. E.g., don't choose a white background to obscure where the steam is. Since 0.10.22, Lix shows the trigger area rectangles during play when ou activate the splat ruler, and you won't be hiding the steam much.

Would you like me to include your maps in future Lix releases? Everything (besides some music) in Lix is CC0, essentially public domain.

All but one of these maps claim to be 2-player maps, only do142.txt (Athena's Home) claims to be a 4-player map. Many of your levels looked like they play equally well with 2 or with 4. I have no good sorting solution for maps that are good with both 2 and 4. I'd sort them each according to its intended number of players.

I recommend to name the files according to the level titles instead of the existing:
do<running count>.txt
I can rename the levels automatically, making the filenames all-lowercase and stripped of spaces. Or are you concerned about the ordering within the directory?

Sorry for my late feedback.
