Hello again.

It's been 13(!) years since I posted here, and I wasn't sure where to post this message, but I just wanted to drop by and say hi. I've been casually getting back into Lemmings again, and it's great to see a community still thriving here. I created a total of 50 extremely modest and slightly rubbish levels in the old Lemmix LVL format back in 2009-2010, as well as a handful of custom levels for Lemmings 2. In more recent times I've totally fallen in love with the latest versions of NeoLemmix, and I was thrilled to see my levels from back in the day being included in the hand-picked community levels of Revenge of the Lemmings. I even watched namida and kaywhyn play some of them on YouTube, which was a lot of fun. I don't know if I have the energy or creativity to get back into making levels (and I was never that great at it anyway), but there's still plenty of fun to be had playing the thousands of levels that already exist.

So, hi. Hope everyone has been looking after themselves. It's been a long time.

hello sir! It's so nice to see you again! [though not sure if I myself ever actually saw you the first time lol]. I loved your L1 levels from back in the day! I unfortunately never got a chance (yet) to try your L2 levels. It's on my list of things to look into but L2 is such a pain to work with.

Welcome back after so long! It's really nice to see a level designer of old return after a very long absence. As I read your post, I see that I've been mentioned and that you were able to find your levels that were included in the community Revenge of the Lemmings pack. I would had tagged you in my Youtube video descriptions, but there appears to be no YT account of this name Either I got the name wrong, or you might not have a YT account. However, it appears to not matter, as you found them anyway In any case, I tag the authors of the levels just to bring the level to the person's attention and makes them aware that a Lemmings fan is playing their levels

mobius, the person who replied before me, is the one you want to thank, as it was he who put the RotL pack together, with some assistance from various members, myself included, of the Lemmings Forums with the pre-testing and deciding on levels to pick to include in the pack, etc. He also did the Lemmini version, which is pretty much the very first version of the pack to exist in any form, and then he recently released it as a New Formats NL pack nearly a year ago. The NF NL version has a lot of the same levels from the Lemmini version, but there are also plenty of new levels that aren't found in the latter.

I don't know if I have the energy or creativity to get back into making levels (and I was never that great at it anyway), but there's still plenty of fun to be had playing the thousands of levels that already exist.

And I thought I myself was no good at level making My first ones design-wise weren't the best they could be visually, but according to at least one user my puzzles/solutions have always been great. The only levels I have made so far are contest levels, but there might be an eventual level pack from me in the future. I haven't definitively say with certainty or not that I will make one, but it is looking more likely that one will come from me at some point. However, I should actually make levels first before I say anything regarding this!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I imagine I'll be semi-lurking in these forums and piping up from time to time. I still love Lemmings, and thanks to NeoLemmix I can basically play it forever, but I'm not likely to be as active as I used to be. Having said that, if you're interested in my presence online (such as on YouTube or Twitch) I can usually be found under my alternate username, which is ScatterbrainWeirdy.

As for right now, my current "holy grail" is to get all my previous Lemmix levels to work in NeoLemmix, in their original order, and with the customised music that I choose. That would make my inner 12-year-old happy. I know that I need to change all the lvl files to nxlv files, and so far the conversion tools that I've tried to use (downloaded from namida's website) didn't work - but I'll look into it.

This is good timing, as I was just helping another Forum member get his .lvl levels into the most up-to-date format last night. If you have the individual .lvl files, what you want to do is grab a v12.9 of the NL player, put all the .lvl files in a folder, put it inside the levels folder of your v12.9 NL directory, load up the folder from the F2 level select by selecting it and then pressing ok, and finally cleanse them by pressing F8. If all goes well, there will be a popup saying "cleanse complete, there were no errors." Then in your NL directory, there will be a cleanse folder and that's where you'll find your levels in .nxlv format.

I followed your instructions as best I could, but when I tried to played the cleansed nxlv files using either 12.7 or 12.12, it didn't seem to recognise them as valid level files, and I'm not sure why. Perhaps you could DM me to help me figure it out? Sorry to be a nuisance. And thanks again for your input so far.

I think before cleansing the levels you first need to convert them from .lvl to .nxlv.

For that an older editor version can be used - all versions are here: https://www.neolemmix.com/?page=download_list&program=16     

I do not remember which version was still able to load .lvl though! - Other people who converted more ancient levels are more knowlegeable here.

After that you can put the new .nxlv into a folder and cleanse them with the newest version.

I've sent you a PM and will help you with getting your levels up-to-date through that No, you're not being a bother at all. I'm more than happy to help, especially since I had success recently when I helped a different user who had the same issue

No, that's not necessary at all. As I mentioned in my post, I recently was able to help another Forum member with getting his levels up-to-date nxlv format by cleansing the .lvl files. The 12.10.3 editor is the last one to be able to load up .lvl files, but again it's not necessary to do this before cleansing. Loading up the .lvl file in the editor and then saving as an nxlv file is really the same thing as cleansing it, just a much slower way of doing so, especially when doing them in bulk For example, the member I helped had 100 .lvl files, and no way was I just going to load them up individually in the editor and save them all one-by-one as an nxlv file. With cleansing via the NL player, all 100 levels saved as nxlv done in just 5-10 seconds!

Looks  like kaywhyn can help you out here, just in case I also have the correct version I can send (to anybody) to do the conversions. As stated; you can dump any/all levels you want into one folder and convert them all en-mass with the F8 button. It's quick and easy!

Do note: that while the conversion process is almost 100% its not always perfect. The most notable issues are sometimes some objects are sized incorrectly or moved or missing entirely.

I'm definintely excited to see you update your old levels! There's some of them from way back I've never solved or backrouted and could never figure out what was intended there.
