Custom Level Select menu graphics not showing up in-game

I've been making custom graphics to put in my level pack folder. Most of them, such as the main menu panels and skill panels, show up fine, but for some reason the icons for the level select menu are only showing up in vanilla form.

Is this a bug/oversight, or an intentional restriction? Seems kind of arbitrary considering how much else you can change.

No, it should work, so it's strange that it isn't for you. Indeed, if you have packs such as Lemmings Uncharted and Lemmings United downloaded, you will see that the level select menu can indeed be customized just like all the other main menu graphics. Are you using the most recent NL version of the player? I'm going to guess the dimensions of the graphic is fine.

I would suggest downloading a pack of the up-to-date NL version that has custom menu graphics and take a closer loook again.

In United the sign for the level select panel is called: "sign_level_select.png"    It needs to have this name.

I was actually talking about the icons seen in the level select menu (levelinfo_icons.png), not the level select panel itself. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Ok, I searched for a pack that uses a custom "levelinfo_icons.png" and found one: LemRunner.  Topic Link: https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=5536.0

You might want to take a look at how it's done there.

Having tested LemRunner, the level select menu icons do not show there either, despite them being in the pack's files.
Also just to clarify, I am using NeoLemmix v12.4.4. Perhaps it was possible to change levelinfo_icons.png in a past version?

That's why I asked if you're using the most recent NL version. 12.4.4 is a very old version of the NL player, many versions behind :P In that case, try updating your NL player. The latest version is currently 12.12.4, which you can get here: https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=5673.0

Also, the LemRunner pack was released sometime last year, and I think the version of NL at the time was 12.11

Sorry, 12.12.4 is the one I meant, I'm just terrible with numbers. :'(
But yeah I suppose this is just arbitrarily impossible? Hopefully it's an oversight that Namida can fix.

Ok, yes, I see that it doesn't work on my end as well. However, I figured it out. You need to go to your base NL directory, go to gfx => menu, and put your custom levelinfo_icons.png in there. Be sure to back up this folder first, as it will ask if you want to overwrite the file. I have confirmed that the new icons work when this is done. I've also confirmed that if you take it out of your level pack folder, the custom icons still load, as long as the .png file is in the gfx => menu folder. Therefore, apparently it doesn't work if it's in your level pack folder, which I think is really strange, as all other graphic files work, so surely having it in there should take precedence over everything else, like how having a music.nxmi file in your level pack folder takes precedence, and only then if NL can't find a matching title track, then it falls back to the standard music rotation music.nxmi file in the data folder located in the base NL directory.

Let me know if this works for you!

I could've helped with this but haven't been on the Forums for a while :forehead:

What kaywhyn said should do the trick

These cannot be replaced by individual packs: you can only modify them globally for your NL installation.

It's less an arbitrary restriction, and more that setting these per pack would be quite complex on the coding side.
