[SUG][FORUM] Save draft posts

Apologies if this is already possible, but maybe the option to save a post/reply as a draft so that you can come back and edit it later before posting?

+1 for this. Can't think of any examples I would use this for at the moment but it would just be a useful convenience feature.

I like the idea, but it's not something I know SMF well enough to implement myself. I could try experimenting with some of the mods out there - would have to see if they work well with the various customizations. The first one I found also seems to have a limitation that it can only save drafts for new topics, not replies (but perhaps there are others that don't have this limitation - I didn't look too hard yet). The other concern is that most of these are quite old now.

Alternatively, SMF 2.1 (which is in an RC phase at the moment, though has been for a long time now so is probably getting very close to stable) has native support for drafts. I don't know what would be involved in upgrading though, and I'd have concerns as to how well it would play with some of our modifications - in particular, PM attachments and spoiler tags.

I don't know for sure, but if I recall correctly I think you said a while after your last post in this thread on Discord that you wouldn't be adding drafts (or that is was unlikely to happen soon) for some reason I cannot remember. However, now years later after this thread laid dormant, we ended upgrading to SFM 2.1 anyway. However, I now cannot find a way to save a draft anywhere; is this something you must enable as the forum administrator that is disabled by default?

Yes, it is, and it should now be enabled.

Thanks . I now see draft-related options in my settings and an empty "My Drafts" page if I click on my name, but I still don't see anywhere I can save a draft .

Confirmed, also can't see anything regarding saving drafts, even in new topics.

I get a Save Draft button next to Preview and Post when I'm making a topic / reply (including the quick reply). Does that not show up for you's?

Same here. Clearing browser cache and reloading the site doesn't help either.

It looks like I needed to specifically enable it as a permission for regular users too. This is now done.
