The results are in!

1. Name a species of large (big) cats.
Lion (1 pt) -- Simon, Gronkling, Crane, SQron188, Akseli
Tiger (0.40 pts) -- IchoTolot, Raymanni

Quote from: Raymanni1. Tiger (I assume you mean 'big cats')

2. Name a DOS platforming game.
Commander Keen (1 pt) -- Simon, IchoTolot, Crane, Akseli, Raymanni
Jazz Jackrabbit (0.20 pts) -- Gronkling
Prehistorik 2 (0.20 pts) -- SQron188

3. Name the average number of skills in a level.
10 (1 pt) -- Gronkling, IchoTolot, SQron188
4 (0.33 pts) -- Raymanni
8 (0.33 pts) -- Crane
15 (0.33 pts) -- Simon
20 (0.33 pts) -- Akseli

4. Name a country in Africa.
Egypt (1 pt) -- Simon, IchoTolot, SQron188, Akseli, Raymanni
Mozambique (0.20 pts) -- Crane
South Africa (0.20 pts) -- Gronkling

5. Name the cutest rodent species.
Lemming (1 pt) -- Gronkling, Akseli, Raymanni
Guinea pig (0.33 pts) -- Simon
Mouse (0.33 pts) -- Crane
Rabbit (0.33 pts) -- IchoTolot
Squirrel (0.33 pts) -- SQron188

Quote from: SQron1885. squirrel (I don't remember the full species name, don't shoot me)

Rabbit is factually incorrect by modern biology. Still, rabbits were considered rodents in earlier centuries, and feud scoring is independent from factual truth anyway.

6. Name a destructive skill.
Basher (1 pt) -- Gronkling, IchoTolot, Raymanni
Bomber/Exploder (0.67 pts) -- Crane, SQron188
Miner (0.67 pts) -- Simon, Akseli

Quote from: SQron1886. BOMBER

7. What is your restaurant side dish?
Chips/Fries (1 pt) -- IchoTolot, Crane
Potatoes (1 pt) -- Simon, Akseli
Greek salad (0.50 pts) -- SQron188
Nothing (0.50 pts) -- Raymanni
Salad (0.50 pts) -- Gronkling

It was conceivable to merge Salad and Greek salad, but there are so many different types of salad that the subclass rule should stand here.

8. Name a species of fish that makes a popular dish.
Salmon (1 pt) -- Simon, IchoTolot, Akseli, Raymanni
Cod (0.75 pts) -- Gronkling, Crane, SQron188

Very close.

9. State a tautology.
The lemming is a lemming. / Lemmings are lemmings. (1 pt) -- Simon, Akseli
People die when they are killed. / If it's in stock, we have it. (1 pt) -- SQron188, Raymanni
A or not-A (0.50 pts) -- IchoTolot
ATM Machine (0.50 pts) -- Gronkling
They arrived one after the other in succession. (0.50 pts) -- Crane

Only the two self-equalities (A = A) with the lemmings were easy to merge.

People die when they are killed. / If it's in stock, we have it: These sentences are still merged because of their structural similarity: Both are if-then, both are true once you know the common-sense meanings of all words.

Both (ATM Machine) and (They arrived one after the other in succession.) duplicate information. We didn't merge these because they arise from vastly different cognitive phenomena: (ATM machine) ignores the meaning of the abbreviation, the other can be a stylistic figure. This was a hard decision.

IchoTolot wins the sad-Tiger award by Forestidia for stating a tautology from propositional logic, i.e., a tautology in the strictest meaning of the word tautology, yet scoring minimum points for the factually best answer.

Quote from: RaymanniIf it's in stock, we have it! (Thank you google)
Quote from: Crane9. "They arrived one after the other in succession" (I know - Google! It's hard to think of one when asked)

10. What pick-up line did the Lemming say to the Lix?
Let's go! (1 pt) -- Akseli, Raymanni
Do you know the mating call of the clam :8():? (0.50 pts) -- IchoTolot
I dig you. :lix-sick::sick::lix-sick::sick::lix-sick::sick: (0.50 pts) -- Gronkling
Nice hair! (0.50 pts) -- Simon
No pick-up lines, they both just dug. (0.50 pts) -- SQron188
Wanna go down? (0.50 pts) -- Crane

Quote from: IchoTolot
10.)
Lemming: "Do you know the mating call of the clam :8():?"
Lix: "No, what's it like?"
The Lemming holds both his arms horizontal on top of each other before his head, opens them quickly like a clam and then he says with haste:
Lemming: "Ey, wanna smash?!?"
*Then he closes his clam-arms again.*
If the line worked is up to your imagination. :XD:

Akseli, do you want to host the next round? Who else would like to?

Were the emojis in Gronkling's #10 answer part of what he typed in his answer PM, vs. commentary inserted by QuizMaster? ???

Sadly I was too preoccupied this week to participate, but looks very interesting especially those tough questions at the end.

Simon

The emojis were part of the answer. :lix-grin: Although I've only considered the text for merging with other answers.

-- Simon

Ryemanni

That was an interesting but fun feud. :P (I noticed something; I'm not actually included in the scoring, but all my answers are the same as grams88's. Was there an error or just a typo? ???)

grams88

I just noticed there :). I think that must of been yourself Raymanni , I never took part in this family feud due to lots of things happening but it looked a fun and an interesting round.

Welldone to Akseli for winning that one.

Simon

Right, I wrote grams88 whenever I should have written Raymanni. I've fixed the scoring post. Thanks for noticing!

More fixes: I merged "Lemming" and "Lemmings" for the rodent question. We asked for a species, and neither "Lemming" nor "Lemmings" clarifies whether it's the video game creature or the real-life rodent; thus, they're equal.

Raymanni +0.5 points, all non-Lemmings answerers -0.16 points.

Compared to my initial erroneous scoring, instead of grams88 in 4th, we now have Raymanni in 2nd. :lix-blush:

Ryemanni

Aw yes, the wonders of rescoring. :8():

There was a last second contender just as I finished writing this post. This turned the tables majorly and caused Akseli to push to the top. Congrats! (Let's hope it didn't also mess up with my calculations)
That was a very tight round. Thanks to evereyone who participated!

IchoTolot

Clarification: I don't hate math, but I thought it would be the popular answer. ;P I actually liked math back in school!

(But I am still no great supporter of university math ;))

I answered that because the Polish version of Family Feud (Familiada) is hosted by a dude called Karol Starsburger.

I presume this is to do with my answer, good effort! :)

That was probably me, I definitely submitted well after the 9/4 0:00 UTC deadline. :-[  Do you remember what the rankings would've looked like without the last second contender?

I'm curious how many people actually answered the Pokémon question without looking it up on the web?  As I recall "sandshrew" was from two websites that were top hits from Google search for "ground type pokemon" (no quotes).  (Specifically hit #1 and hit #2.)  Both websites have the sandshrew as the first one listed, so I figured on picking that.

For some of the other Pokémon answers, was there somehow a recent IRC thread involved?  Either that, or Pokémon was more popular amongst the regulars here than I thought. :o

The bone one was tricky.  Technically speaking the skull is actually 22 bones and even the cranium is apparently 8 bones, though I'm well aware this is irrelevant feud-wise and some people would still answer "skull".  Then again, skull is also not your stereotypical "thin and long" shape you'd expect when you ask someone to draw a bone, so I wasn't really sure if that was a good pick.  At one point I actually considered answering "rib" since it'd look more like a "stereotypical bone" and also the only other thing I can actually name off top of my head.  Kinda glad I didn't though given the other answers.

Palindrome was interesting.  I arrived at "madam" essentially via the first thing mentioned in the Wikipedia article about palindromes.  But after I submitted all my answers, it did occur to me that technically "a" or any one-letter word would also count, and I suspect I wasn't the only one who might've thought that way.  But being already a late submission I don't want to bother with amending my already late answers again (there were other questions I suspect I wouldn't do well on anyway and don't have other answers ready, so really why bother on one).

I don't hate math at all, but I believe there's a general sense that some people "aren't good with numbers" and thus would especially dislike math.  I suspect they wouldn't like some of the science subjects very much either.  Of course in reality every subject gets hated by someone, and some people probably hate every school subject, just as the reverse will be true for some people.

I can't believe I didn't think of Crane's Quizzy McQuizface, that was rather obvious in hindsight, though apparently not actually all that popular amongst the answers.  "Steve" on the other hand feels like I missed something again on IRC maybe? ???

I played Pokemon yellow as a teenager. The first boss opens Geodude and is nasty to fight with what you have by then. No rock pokemon appear earlier.

QuoteThe bone one was tricky.  Technically speaking the skull is actually 22 bones and even the cranium is apparently 8 bones,

Hah, I too didn't want to answer Skull for this reason, and I lacked the gut to ignore the definitions.

The US TV feud show's host is Steve Harvey. He doesn't look at all like this quizmaster, but he's connected with the feud for sure. I wonder how many have seen US feuds? Excerpts upload frequently on youtube.

I usually train a Nidoran to handle Brock with Double Kick when I play Yellow. Red and Blue versions have it easier as their available starters all fare better against Brock than Pikachu does.

I should jump into one of these Feud rounds sometime...
