What if you want to list the skills in your level but you don't want to type it all out?
That's what a skill emoji should be for have emojis for each of the skills (Vanilla, Neolemmix, Lix)
Thought of this last night and decided, why not ask it here?

Simon

Quotehave emojis for each of the skills

I like this. Comes handy in general handy for discussing skillsets, solutions, and challenges.

Skill icons seem more important than our heap of smileys with similar expressions. Let's plow through the forum database, find the least used smileys, and move some from the main posting screen to the [more] screen. :lix-grin:

Ideally, the level exporter prints skills on the image.

Lix already prints skills, save req, and spawn interval, like in the attached screenshot. Maybe title and author should go on the image too, but they have no impact on the physics.

Lix for that feature may not need the emojis, Neolemmix, may need it in-game because it lacks that feature

Simon

Okay, I'm waiting for smiley submissions then.

I recommend similar size as the smileys on the post form. If straight sprite rip from NL, use doubled pixels maybe. Consider a dark outline -- white skin on light background is hard to see: :lemming:

Also waiting for feedback by namida, even though I believe he'll have no objections.

Is it possible for the skill emoticons to be animated?

Not sure if it's worthwhile, but as far as I'm aware there's no reason why emoticons can't be GIFs or APNGs.

2D Lemmings: NeoLemmix (engine) | Lemmings Plus Series (level packs) | Doomsday Lemmings (level pack)
3D Lemmings: Loap (engine) | L3DEdit (level / graphics editor) | L3DUtils (replay / etc utility) | Lemmings Plus 3D (level pack)
Non-Lemmings: Commander Keen: Galaxy Reimagined (a Commander Keen fangame)

While maybe I'm not one to speak given my avatar, :XD: I suspect some people might find animating skill emojis to be a little too distracting for the purposes proposed. :-\ (eg. imagine seeing them animating on every single post of a level pack review thread or something...)

Ramon

I too like the idea of skill emotes but am in favor of non-animated ones, precisely due to what ccexplore said (the animations would be quite distracting and not add any value).

Something like this?

I used the default sprites from NL and scaled them up like Simon siggested, but I think they look a bit too big. What do you guys think? ???

namida

I don't know if they need to be that big; look at them relative to the size of text (though I guess this may differ between user configurations). In fact, even the default size in NL's data might be good enough; just with the empty space trimmed (though ideally they should all have the same height).
