Alright guys, it's time for the results! We've had some interesting answers here - and, a fair few factual mistakes, although as per previous rounds, it doesn't matter if the answer is factually incorrect; only how popular the answer is. Indeed, in one question, more than one person gave the same factually-incorrect answer.

Standard scoring questions

1. Name a handheld console that is not made by Nintendo.

Playstation Portable (PSP) - 6 people (1 point)
Akseli, ccexplore, geoo, namida, NaOH, Simon

Playstation Vita - 2 people (0.33 points)
607, Ramon

Xbox - 1 person (0.17 points) <factual error>
Minim

2. Name a digital download provider of video games.

Steam - 8 people (1 point)
Akseli, ccexplore, geoo, Minim, namida, NaOH, Ramon, Simon

Amazon - 1 person (0.13 points)
607

3. Name a gaming platform for which the games generally are on DVD discs.

Sega CD - 1 person (0.33 points) <factual error>
geoo
(In his defence, he did say he had no idea.)

4. Name a series of RPG games.

Final Fantasy - 6 people (1 point)
607, Akseli, ccexplore, namida, NaOH, Simon

Diablo - 1 person (0.17 points)
Ramon

The Elder Scrolls - 1 person (0.17 points)
Minim

Secret of Mana - 1 person (0.17 points)
geoo

5. Name a series of first-person shooter games.

As a side note, Akseli brought up that this exact question had occurred in a very recent past feud.

607, Minim, namida

Halo - 3 people (1 point)
Akseli, ccexplore, Simon

Counterstrike - 1 person (0.33 points)
NaOH

Doom - 1 person (0.33 points)

Sega - 6 people (1 point)
Akseli, ccexplore, geoo, Minim, namida, Ramon

Atari - 2 people (0.33 points)
NaOH, Simon

Start - 2 people (0.4 points)
Akseli, namida

A - 1 person (0.2 points)

Special scoring questions

11. You are developing a game for a Playstation system. You want to add a cheat code that does... something awesome; what it does is not important here. The code is to be four buttons long, using only the X, Square, Triangle and Circle buttons. You may use the same button more than once.

Codes:
607: X, Square, Triangle, Circle
Akseli: Square, Triangle, Circle, X
ccexplore: Triangle, Square, X, Circle
geoo: Square, Triangle, X, Circle
Minim: Square, Circle, Triangle, Circle
namida: Circle, Square, X, X
NaOH: Triangle, X, Square, Circle
Ramon: X, Square, Circle, Triangle
Simon: Square, X, Triangle, Circle

Score factors:

Positions where no one else has the same button (+0.5 points each):
> +0.5 to namida, for Circle in first position
> +0.5 to Minim, for Circle in second position
> +0.5 to NaOH, for Square in third position
> +0.5 to Ramon, for Triangle in fourth position

Having the same button twice in the code (-0.25 points per button per code):
> -0.25 to Minim, for two Circles (2nd and 4th)
> -0.25 to namida, for two Xs (3rd and 4th)

Having the same button three or four times in the code (-0.75 points per button per code):
> none

Having three of the same button in the same position as someone else's code:
> -1 each to Minim and Simon, for Square 1st + Triangle 3rd + Circle 4th

Having the exact same code as someone else:
> none

Overall scores:
Minim: -0.75
namida: +0.25
NaOH: +0.5
Ramon: +0.5
Simon: -1
All other participants neither gained nor lost points on this question.

12. Pick three guesses as to what codes you think other people might pick for question 11.

I've put everyone's guesses behind a spoiler tag, to save space. Click to expand if you want to see the guesses themself.
Spoiler
607
Square Square Square Square
Circle Triangle Square X

QuoteXbox - 1 person (0.33 points)
Minim

I actually find it kind of interesting that this was a one-person answer, as it's the only game system I can think of that solely uses DVD discs for its games. Playstation 2 also has some games that are on CD discs (especially those released early in the PS2's life cycle), while Xbox 360 also has downloadable games. And PC has too many storage media to count. (Actually, I guess GameCube is also DVD only... is it?)

Comments for the previous rounds:

Simon's round
Proxima attended, this is rare.
#3. I was going with salt before I googled the definition of "spice". The word "salt" fulfills the definition for Finnish word for "spice".
#7. 1 for an average Finnish person, 7 for me and seemingly also 7 according to the majority feud players. :)
#8. Mr.K, möbius, Insane Steve, Giga, Timballisto, ...
#9. I wouldn't answer broom even yet, fist is an obvious answer.
#10. Awesome answer by Pieuw. :P I remember especially möbius giving entertaining answers in the past feuds, also.

Quizmaster could have notified her immediately after getting the answers that there's something weird there. :P
Many easy questions in this round where (almost) everyone answered the same answer.

Minim's round
#2. Yes, Spice Girls would have been an obvious non-US answer. Like already said by other people, there is no wrong answers in Family Feud, this is not a quiz. In rare cases there can be restrictions, like Mexico answer in my first round and question 8 of ccexplore's round to make things clear.
#3. Having just watched John Carpenter's classic Halloween... :P

Quote from: NaOH on April 05, 2015, 07:43:04 PM
Question 11 seemed a little overbalanced points-wise, although it would seem it didn't affect the final outcomes at all.
I know that this is just my opinion but I don't care at all the non-standard scoring questions. :P Giving them lots of influence to the outcome is something I approve even less, but I know that there are people who like non-standard scoring questions, so it's of course okay to have those in some (the most :P) rounds. I see them just luck-based and mostly not interesting (a very rare exceptions are conga line and robot dance club questions).

namida's second round

Where is everyone? We only have six people who've submitted answers so far... T_T
Hard questions, like you now noticed from the amount of factual errors. :P I could answer only like 3/10 questions immediately and there were some questions I didn't even understand reading them the first time, like #2. After searching for some information this round was pretty fun, though. :)
#3. Yeah, I meant all the Playstations. ;) Of course that would have been too inaccurate an answer.
#5. My round jinxed. Weird that some people changed their answers to some non-top answer from my round, also what's with CoD? :P
#7. Simon's post jinxed, even though Hamsters was not the top answer. :P
#8. A bit surprising top answer here. A big thumbs-up for Minim's answer!

namida

Quote#3. Yeah, I meant all the Playstations. ;) Of course that would have been too inaccurate an answer.

Very inaccurate - the PS2 is the only one that uses DVDs (and as mentioned, even it doesn't always use them, but they are it's "primary" media). PS1 uses only CD-ROM, while PS3 and PS4 only use either blu-ray or downloadable.

Anyway, if anyone wants to take the next feud, drop me a PM. :)

I haven't thought at all how Hamsters was an IRS outside of the Lemmings series, when I explained how a non-Lemmings IRS coined the term "IRS". This violates the single rule I've made up for the feud myself: Don't blatantly discuss possible answers ahead of resolution. :lix-blush:

The past rounds had a good chunk of unexpected (for me at least) top answers. This is what makes a good feud, you're both reasonably sure of your answers, and still excited about the resolution.

The need to goolge information, I agree it's nice to keep it small.

Second-best answers

The TV episodes of Family Feud ended with a two-person team quiz. Both had to answer the same feud questions. The second person was not allowed to repeat the first person's answer.

Let's play this. Each question today scores almost-normally, except that one possible answer per question is forbidden. If you give the forbidden answer, you score zero points on that question.

1. Name a color, except red.
2. Name a famous U.S. landmark, except the statue of liberty.
3. Name a website, except Lemmings Forums.
4. Name a platform/jump'n'run game or series, except Super Mario.
5. Name a dream job of little children, except firefighter.
6. Name a thing you can sit on, except chair.
7. Name a large animal, except elephant.
8. Name a tool from the do-it-yourself store, except hammer.
9. Name a frustrating piece of computer hardware, except printer.
10. Name a genre of TV programming, except quiz show.

That's it! This round ends Sunday, April 26th, UTC 20:00. Enjoy, and good luck!

So... are you supposed to give a correct answer nobody else gave?

namida

It works like normal, except that each question has a prohibited answer (the ones listed with the questions). For example, if you were to answer "red" to question 1, you'd get 0 points, since "red" is the prohibited answer. Beyond that, you're still trying to get the most popular answer.

Always answer the feud when it opens, with pure gut-feeling answers. You can still amend later. ;-)

Especially with such a small variety, there are some further answers I would've considered equivalent (since they're of a similar standard to "sofa" and "couch" which you did consider equivalent):

"Whale" / "Blue whale"
"Modem" / "Router" - I know from a purely technical point of view they're different things, but in average conversation they're often considered interchangable. To be perfeclty honest, I'm not even 100% sure myself what differentiates the two.
"Sitcom" / "Comedy"

While it goes without saying that I don't call all the shots here (except maybe on my rounds), I'd like to suggest for future rounds as a guideline (not nessecerially a hard-and-fast rule), "If you need to explain why you didn't consider two answers equivalent, first reconsider whether you really shouldn't treat them as equivalent'.

However, nitpicking aside, that was definitely a very interest concept for a round, it's a shame more people didn't enter. Perhaps we should try that concept again, but maybe with a longer entry period?

#101
These things have influenced the scoring, right.

(Wifi transmitter = Router = Modem), I recognize how average people won't tell them all apart. Should the knowledge of average people influence the outcome? We can use average people's definitions of things, or instead the opinion of slightly more caring people like Wiki authors and Q&A site answerers, or instead the opinion of experts.

Nowadays, Modem and Router are often combined in one item of hardware. This is a good reason to lump them together.

(Blue Whale = Whale) would have made Akseli the single winner. When I entered this round, I thought about whether Blue Whale, or Whale, was better to put. The subclass rule is clear how they aren't equivalent.

Do you perceive a problem with definitions, or do you find the subclass rule an issue?

QuoteIf you need to explain why you didn't consider two answers equivalent, first reconsider whether you really shouldn't treat them as equivalent.

This suggestion seems empty -- when the host explains a decision, they have made a nontrivial decision, and therefore have considered merging/not merging answers.  Do you suggest to treat more stuff equivalent in general?

Huh.  I guess I am a bit of a dinosaur then, as my cable modem and my WiFi router are two separate pieces of equipment.  Granted, they were obtained nearly 8-9 years ago so maybe things have changed.  Still, I have a hard time agreeing with treating the two as equivalent.  I mean, your average Joe probably thinks all tablets are iPads, I'm not sure that's good enough criteria for equivalence.

The reverse would be true though (at least as far as I'm aware) - all iPads are tablets. So unless the question was, eg, "name a brand of tablet", I'd think they should both be considered under "Tablet". Of course, it's possible I may not think of this until someone points it out - and I'd say "should the results be changed after they've been announced to account for these kind of things' is a whole different issue too...

And indeed - while I believe seperate devices do still exist for those who prefer such a setup, generally these days cable/DSL modems and routers are a single piece of equipment, at least in home user setups (no idea what the professional/business setups are like).

This is in direct conflict with the subclass rule:

When all As are Bs, but not all Bs are As, then A and B are different feud answers.

As asked above, do you suggest to soften this rule? It's been like this since 2013 though. Or do you suggest coarsening word definitions (router/modem)?

The problem with losing the subclass rule: Answering "thing" to each question is then guaranteed to match every other answer.
