Round 2!

1. Name a country which has similar climate all-year round! (Feud Scoring)

2. Name a colour that you often see in daily life! (Feud Scoring)

3. Name a utensil useful for beating somebody up! (Feud Scoring)

4. If you wanted a robotic upgrade for one of your body parts, which part would you choose? (Feud Scoring)

5. Name a famous non-fictional robot! (Feud Scoring)

6. Name a famous fictional robot! (Feud Scoring)

7. Everyone is a robot on a 4x4 grid. Choose a starting position (row, column) with coordinates integers between 0 and 3 inclusive e.g. (2, 0). Here (0, 0) is the top left corner. Then all robots move simultaneously, one move at a time, up, down, left or right. You move 5 times. At the beginning, and after each move, if two or more robots are on the same field, they explode and disappear and are out of the game. If a robot leaves the field they are out too. For each move that you survive, you get 0.2 points.
Example answer: "I start at field (2, 0) and move UURDR (up, up, right, down, right)".

8. How many robots will survive until the end? (1 point for correct answer, 0.5 points for being one off.)

9. How many robots will survive until the end? (Feud Scoring)

Simon

<geoo> quick, somebody bump the family feud topic before it falls into oblivion (i.e. the most recent posts list)

Clarification on question 7: If two people start in adjacient squares, then move towards and through each other during the same movement, they don't explode. The game checks for explosions only after everyone has moved.

This is the last (very friendly) call for submissions! The feud will be resolved within a bit over 24 hours.

Here are the results, generated by an Excel spreadsheet plus a python script for formatting, plus additional commentary:

1. Name a country which has similar climate all-year round!
Kenya (1.00 points) - Simon, Akseli, Clam
Panama (0.67 points) - ccx, Nepster
Ecuador (0.67 points) - geoo, NaOH
Mexico (0.33 points) - Ramon
Greenland (0.33 points) - Timballisto
Brazil (0.33 points) - RubiX
Australia (0.33 points) - namida

Quote from: ClamKenya (because geoo)
This one had quite an obvious answer in hindsight, which I ironically missed.

2. Name a colour that you often see in daily life!
green (1.00 points) - geoo, NaOH, namida, Nepster, Ramon, Timballisto
blue (0.50 points) - RubiX, ccx, Clam
white (0.33 points) - Simon, Akseli

Quote from: ClamBlue (because sky)
Quote from: Simonwhite (tabletop, console/terminal background, teacup, paper)
It seems that 6 players' hacker consoles have green text on black background, as it's supposed to be, stereotypically.

3. Name a utensil useful for beating somebody up!
baseball bat (1.00 points) - Simon, geoo, Ramon
knife (0.67 points) - ccx, Timballisto
bat (0.67 points) - Akseli, Nepster
rolling pin (0.33 points) - RubiX
ladle (0.33 points) - Clam
glass bottle (0.33 points) - namida
club (0.33 points) - NaOH

Quote from: ClamLadle (because in-jokes)
Quote from: ccxknife? [ugh, I squirm just typing out such an answer... :scared:]
So would I at the thought of using the blunt side of a knife to bludgeon somebody...I think knifes are more suitable for stabbing.

4. If you wanted a robotic upgrade for one of your body parts, which part would you choose?
hand (1.00 points) - Simon, Akseli, Nepster
eye (0.67 points) - NaOH, namida
brain (0.67 points) - Clam, Timballisto
arm (0.67 points) - geoo, ccx
penis (0.33 points) - RubiX
leg (0.33 points) - Ramon

Quote from: ccxarm [though I think in reality I'd rather be Iron Man and goes with a robotic suit, instead of replacing my perfectly good body parts]
That sounds like a very sensible idea, especially at the prospect of some of the suggested replacements which seem more like downgrades...

5. Name a famous non-fictional robot!
Asimo (1.00 points) - Akseli, Clam, Timballisto
Curiosity [Mars Rover] (0.67 points) - geoo, Nepster
|Lovely| (0.33 points) - Simon
roomba (0.33 points) - ccx
robbie the robot (0.33 points) - RubiX
none (0.33 points) - Ramon
deep blue (0.33 points) - namida
Shakey (0.33 points) - NaOH

Quite a few creative answers in the low-scoring range here. I especially like the Roomba, probably the most useful of the bunch (next to maybe |Lovely|).

6. Name a famous fictional robot!
R2D2 (1.00 points) - Akseli, ccx, Clam, Nepster, Ramon, Timballisto
Wall-E (0.33 points) - geoo, NaOH
kryten (0.17 points) - RubiX
Marvin the Paranoid Android (0.17 points) - namida
Bender [Futurama] (0.17 points) - Simon

This one had a clear winner, probably not too surprisingly (I went with Wall-E due to being more recent). Marvin could maybe compose some lullabies for NaOH...

7. Robot dance club

These are everyone's instructions (a few people initially indexed their rows from 1 instead of 0  :lix-glare: :8():):
geoo,0,1,LDURL
Simn,1,1,RDLUR
NaOH,1,3,UDUDU
Akse,3,1,RUDLU
Timb,2,3,UDUDU
Neps,2,2,UDUDU
RubX,3,0,URDLU
ccx ,3,2,RLLRU
nami,0,2,RDRUU
Ramn,0,2,DUDUD
Clam,2,0,DRUUU

And this is what comes out of it:
Start:
[    ]  [geoo]  [na/Ra] [    ]
[    ]  [Simn]  [    ]  [NaOH]
[Clam]  [    ]  [Neps]  [Timb]
[RubX]  [Akse]  [ccx ]  [    ]

After 1st move:
[geoo]  [    ]  [    ]  [NaOH]
[    ]  [    ]  [Si/Ne] [Timb]
[RubX]  [    ]  [    ]  [    ]
[Clam]  [    ]  [Akse]  [ccx ]

After 2nd move:
[    ]  [    ]  [    ]  [    ]
[geoo]  [    ]  [    ]  [NaOH]
[    ]  [RubX]  [Akse]  [Timb]
[    ]  [Clam]  [ccx ]  [    ]

After 3rd move:
[geoo]  [    ]  [    ]  [NaOH]
[    ]  [    ]  [    ]  [Timb]
[    ]  [Clam]  [    ]  [    ]
[    ]  [Ru/cc] [Akse]  [    ]

After 4th move:
[    ]  [geoo]  [    ]  [    ]
[    ]  [Clam]  [    ]  [NaOH]
[    ]  [    ]  [    ]  [Timb]
[    ]  [Akse]  [    ]  [    ]

After 5th move:
[geoo]  [Clam]  [    ]  [NaOH]
[    ]  [    ]  [    ]  [Timb]
[    ]  [Akse]  [    ]  [    ]
[    ]  [    ]  [    ]  [    ]

NaOH and Timballisto perform Tango the whole time, while namida bumps into Ramon right at the start.
Quote from: namidaYes, this is exactly the example backwards. :P
Clam instead starts right where the example starts which seems to be a better strategy here. Simon and Nepster move around the dangerous center and have to pay for it, crashing into each other right after the first move. A bit later RubiX crashes into ccexplore.

1.00 points - geoo, Akseli, NaOH, Clam, Timballisto
0.40 points - RubiX, ccx
0.00 points - Simon, namida, Nepster, Ramon

8. How many robots will survive until the end? (1 point for correct answer, 0.5 points for being one off.)
5 (1.00 points) - namida, Nepster
4 (0.50 points) - geoo, NaOH
3 (0.00 points) - Simon, Akseli, RubiX, Clam, Timballisto
2 (0.00 points) - Ramon
1 (0.00 points) - ccx

The correct answer was 5, as we can easily see above. Nobody guessed higher than that. It seems that secretly people hoped for more crashes. It'd be interesting to analyze how much the initial number of players affects the expected number of survivors, anybody want to have some fun with Markov chains?

9. How many robots will survive until the end? (Feud Scoring)
0 (1.00 points) - Akseli, namida, ccx, Clam, Ramon
4 (0.40 points) - NaOH, Nepster
3 (0.40 points) - RubiX, Timballisto
2 (0.20 points) - geoo
1 (0.20 points) - Simon

The obvious feud answer when it's about numbers is 0.  :XD: Those people who were a bit more serious about this question collectively estimated that people would guess lower than they actually did. Nobody guessed a higher number in Q9 than in Q8.

These are the final results, out of possible 9 points (nobody got close to the perfect score even though it seems like an easy round):

1.  Akseli (7.00)
2.  Clam (6.50)
3.  Nepster (6.40)
4.  Timballisto (6.07)
5.  geoo (6.03)
6.  NaOH (5.23)
6.  ccx (5.23)
8.  Ramon (5.00)
9.  namida (4.83)
10. Simon (4.03)
11. RubiX (2.80)

Congrats to Akseli who won 3 times last year and seems to be off to a good start again!

Finally, attached is a spreadsheet with the results. When converted to a .csv (after everything has been entered), you can apply the attached python script to get a post template that saves a lot of typing work. Also attached the python script for Question 7 in case people want to analyze what could have been...

I'm kinda surprised for #3 that so many people (about half) went for general objects rather than what "utensils" usually imply--specifically eating utensils like knife, but failing that, at least kitchen utensils like rolling pin.  Feels like I was getting tricked by the wording...... :-\

As for Rubix's #4 answer......um, words fail me...... :o :scared: :XD: I guess I know who to pitch to if I ever become a salesman of robotic, um, companions. ;)

Timballisto

Good thing I switched from C3PO...

RubiX

I felt a lightbult went off the moment I was reading the robotic upgrade question.  DING!
PENIS of course.    (for being the first thing in your mind.   admit it guys.  You all failed me)

You left me hanging.
or dangling.

namida

I was tempted to say that, but figured the LF community had outgrown penis jokes (as well as that not all of our members are male). :P

Oddly enough, this was my first thought as well.  :-[

I even drew up a spreadsheet to make sure I'd get this one right... then absent-mindedly numbered the cells from 1 to 4. And because I didn't enter til right at the end I may have actually delayed the round as well.

FAIL :XD:

I think I'm not going to try to evaluate the "difficulty" of any Feud round or question anymore, I don't see much sense in it, everyone sees this issue in so different ways. Simon said that a difficult Feud question is that kind that you are not confident about your answer, it sounds like an okay definition. Going with this, the easiest question for me in this round was definitely #2, white was a clearly obvious answer for me immediately. I can go on Simon's list with my furniture, walls, food, milk, writing equipment, LF background, snow everywhere outside. So, does anyone want to explain why green? ;P

#1 Yeah, Kenya because of geoo. I never actually realize to think answers from previous rounds, like those apparently did who answered Panama and Ecuador.
#3 I meant baseball bat with my answer, but it failed to be that accurate. :P
#5 This was one of the hardest standard scoring questions for me ever, I admit that I thought of answering the same as Ramon did here.
#7 This was one of the best and funniest non-standard scoring questions I've seen! It resembled a bit those maze questions we had years ago.

NaOH

Days where I don't see green outside are not a day well lived.

Greetings and welcome to Family Feud 2015, Round 3. I was kidnapped by geoo and Akseli and being tortured for the past few days in a dark lonesome cellar up in Scandinavia to make me host the next Family Feud round on LF, and it seems they have succeeded in their virtuous task to keep this game alive for another season.

In other words, this is my first Family Feud as a host, so expect nothing special. I hope you'll still enjoy it though!

---
Questions 1 to 10 will be scored using the normal Feud system.
---

1. Name a film series featuring at least three installments.

2. Name a trick you can perform on a skateboard.

3. Name a public transportation vehicle.

4. Name an ancient human civilization.

5. Name a famous skiing resort.

6. Name a board game that can be played by at least 2 people.

7. Name one of the four classical (not chemical) elements.

8. Name a famous mathematician.

9. Name a fear that does not originate from creatures.

10. Which one of the original 8 skill lemmings would be most likely to play in a band?

---
The following questions have their own scoring systems.
---

11. You are now playing Lemmings and need to beat a level with 2 Lemmings and a save requirement of 50%. (Ignore the numbers for now, they are relevant for the next question.)

However there is only a limited pool of skills available: Climber, Floater, Bomber, Walker, Builder, Basher, Miner, Digger. (For those unfamiliar with the Walker skill: Using it on a walking lemming will turn it around.) Each player must choose exactly one skill to beat the above level with. You will score 1/n points for this question, where n is the number of participants that chose your particular skill.

12. You are now playing Lemmings again, and by chance, the same level as in the question above. However! This now seems to have turned into a multiplayer spectacle.
Consider the following scenario: Each player is represented by a lemming that will enter from the above trapdoor and wants to reach the exit. Initially, each player starts with 0 skills, but they may buy up to three skills from the skill pool from question 11 for a certain amount of points. The lemmings will enter the level in a certain order which the player will choose, and (important!) that lemming will complete all its actions before the next lemming enters. The resulting terrain is left untouched until then.
The numbers on the map correlate to at which point your lemming can use a skill (bombers are exempt from this question, climbers and floaters will be assigned immediately on entering). Note that you cannot use two skills at the same location at the same time.

1: Walker, Builder (assume that a built bridge here will splat lemmings walking over it!), Basher or Miner (to remove bridges)
2: Digger, Builder (to close digger hole)
3: Basher, Miner, Builder (to close basher/miner hole)
4: Builder, Basher or Miner (to remove bridges; basher will only remove bridges built from point 4)
5: Builder (prevents lemmings from dropping through this gap from both sides), Basher or Miner (removes bridges built from point 4 or 5)

Each skill price follows the same pattern (skills are bought directly before your lemming enters the level and points are spent even if the skills aren't used):

The first of each skill is free, afterwards the cost for a particular skill increases by 0.2 points for each time that skill is bought (basically, 0.2*(m-1) for the m-th time that this skill is bought).
Buying a second and third skill costs 0.3 points each, additional to the above price. You may also choose not to buy any skills and hope that a lemming in front of you has already laid out a path to the exit. You may also buy the same skill repeatedly (pay attention to the cost increase of the skill itself, which still applies).

To determine the order the lemmings enter the level, each player needs to specify an integer between 1 and 100 (both inclusive). Due to bad air conditioning of this level, entering the level earlier comes at a price, so 1/(2n) points will be initially deduced from the n-th player to enter the level for the first half of the entering lemmings. If two or more people enter at the same time, the order is determined by amount of skills bought (least to most) - in case there's still a tie, those lemmings simply won't enter the level at all due to not fitting through the trapdoor together at once.

If your lemming reaches the exit, you will receive 1 point, if it dies, you lose 0.5 points. If your lemming becomes stuck in eternal limbo, no points are given or deduced.
This may also be a good opportunity to not simply gain points, but to sabotage other players to lose points.

Ultimately: Each player sends me an integer between 1 and 100 (determining the order), then which skills to buy (0 allowed), then which skill to use at which location (1 to 5) on the level.

-------------------------------

I realize that question 12 is quite complicated and currently still more of an experiment, and thus I am open to any and all kinds of questions asked in regard. I may also answer with my actual account (Ramond), and it may be possible that the question scoring or mechanics will still be changed after some reviewing (people may then revise their answers for this question). Note that I won't join in this feud round myself though.

And now have fun!

ccexplore

I was under the impression that nothing can get worse than my robo-Santa question so honestly I wouldn't worry.  If nothing else, hosting a less-than-successful feud round ensures that you won't be bothered again in the future to do so, so maybe yay? :XD: (Note: not my intention despite appearances to the contrary, though it doesn't matter to me one way or the other.)
