The work has come to a halt again. I'd like additional hints. Let's see whether Proxima and Clam barge in and don't want hints. :-)

Complete list of koans are in my latest post before this one.

Current ideas: Anything < 3 letters is black. Some letters allow same-letter koans, others don't. The allowed length varies highly. The status is independent of anagramming.

I have shoved the koans through a number-crunching script, but didn't see any pattern. The script converts letters into numbers, sorts, and adds them.

This is completely correct.

Some letters allow same-letter koans, others don't
Not true. All letters are possible to come up with a koan that contains them multiple times; in fact, there are only two letters for which a white koan cannot be made that consists of nothing but the same letter repeated multiple times.

The allowed length varies highly
Not true. As the example with A suggests, there is no maximum length of a valid koan. There is no length where a long string of As is the only valid koan of that length.

The status is independent of anagramming
This is not true in 100% of cases. To give a counterexample:
TMI and TIM are black koans
MIT and MTI are white koans
However, it is true in the majority of cases.

Something that has been suggested before is at least on the right track. However, it may help to re-imagine that solution as if you were a computer rather than a human. This alone will not solve the puzzle, but will get you much closer.
