Erase Terrain

How do you remove pieces of a terrain to make it smaller, like they did in the Sega Lemmings in Lemmix?

In Lemmix, you can make a piece of terrain erase existing terrain it overlaps with.  Select the terrain piece, press F11 to bring up the Inspector window, and click on the "Erase" box so it gets a checkmark.  This will draw the selected terrain piece in erase mode where it will erase existing terrain it overlaps with (although only for terrain with index values lower than it).

I thought that built in eraser just makes them invisible and the Lemmings will still be able to touch it, thanks.
