Way back in Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow, when a trainer ran out of Pokémon in a fight, it would say...

Code: [Select]
RED is out of usable POKéMON!
...
RED blacked out!

Then in Gold/Silver/Crystal, it changed to...

Code: [Select]
GOLD is out of usable POKéMON!
...
GOLD ///whited/// out!
(Emphasis added)

I mean ... blacking out is the more usual phrase for that kind of event - fainting. So ... any idea why it changed? I think in more recent games, it returned to being blacking out.

I just wondered if it had anything to do with the JINX controversy.

You mean Jynx, Jase?

I think it's a combination of the Jynx racism row, and possibly some connotations with epilepsy. Still, it seemed a little bit strange.

Similarly, in all Pokémon centres apart from HG/SS, Nurse Joy says "We hope to see you again.". In HG/SS, she says "Please come back again anytime.".

There's probably some sort of EU ruling affecting all English-language versions of the game: It was the EU's fault that the Game Corner was removed.. and no doubt, they'll eventually get the whole gameplay system changed so you can only play for one hour each day.

I'd say that's true. There's always a consumer watchdog who is unhappy about some depiction of something or other.

Mind you, gambling? Really? That's the biggest problem in a game where animals fight each other for the benefit of their owners' egos? lol, Europe. Just lol. http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/laugh.gif" alt=":D" title="Laugh" class="smiley" />
