I can't pass Taxing 5 D:

... on the NES version.

Seriously, lose 1, only 10 builders? With the splat height as low as it is? And the entrance acts as a ceiling that you can't build through? Who playtested this?

Yea I really can't see any way through this level at all. Not with NES mechanics, anyways. Help?

Hi,

it can be solved. I found a solution on youtube where it is done.

Quote from: Info text from the video
This level can be little difficult. Pixel perfect builder after floater lemming are extremely precise and random, but if you can managed it there is no any other problems.

I played all the NES levels on an emulator a long while ago on the old old forums, and I had solved every single level back then so I know it's possible, but I don't remember anything about Taxing 5.  If I have time I'll try to fire up the emulator again to take a look and see if there might be an easier way.

Who playtested this?

Just wait till you get to Mayhem 19.  Now that's a level that will truly make you wonder if anyone playtested it.  Even tseug (if you remember him from the old old forums) went "oh no" when he tried it out the first time.

Ewwwww, yea I don't know if I'd ever have found that -- I kept trying to do weird digger pit traps and stuff and kept running out of builders. Thanks.

fwiw NES Lemmings is ... interesting, in both good, bad, and ugly senses. Some levels which were jokes on most other Lemmings versions become somewhat interesting now because of the strange mechanics. Others become... that  :-[

I plugged in my X-box converted to an NES/SNES/Genesis emulator, and since I'm sick I went through NES Lemmings because I'd usually just given up on it due to its weird gameplay and hard-to-place skills, but I figured I'd give it another shot. I got through all of Fun/Tricky with only a few problems and then just got stopped cold at that level.

I just skipped Taxing 5 with a password and went through the rest of Taxing with almost no issues until Taxing 25, which looked like a joke at first until I discovered you can only lose 1.  :P That's where I'm at now, it's late here so I'll have another look at that one tomorrow.

EDIT: Just skipped ahead to Mayhem 19, hahahaha I hate KotC enough in DOS Lemmings I'm going to throw out the white flag right now before even getting there  ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley" />
EDIT2: Wait I just noticed you got diggers too, I guess that makes it a bit less cringeworthy but still wat

Ok, the attached zip file contains a screenshot showing how to pass Taxing 5 without that precision skill-assignment bit shown in the Youtube video.  Although it really only further supports the theory that NES Lemmings was not playtested thoroughly.
