Trying to figure out the quote code

I am curious about the code for the date on every quote. Everytime I'm quoting a post during my posting I don't see a date, but instead I see a code for it.

I am just wondering, how is the code worked out? What does each number in the code do?

It's not a code.  The date is stored as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_time" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">Unix time, the number of seconds since January 1, 1970.
