What is your favourite tileset from the original game? Mine has to be the crystal tileset, I like the calm blue and everything seems so relaxing. Also, the white brick colour works well.

Marble is the prettiest tileset of the Original game; I vote for it. Crystal is also beautiful, but a little dark. But the most iconic and popular for making levels I think it's Pillar. It's not surprise it was the chosen one in Lemmings 2 for the Classic tribe, due to the clean and clear shapes it has.

For me it's a very close call between Fire and Crystal.

Fire is the most usable tileset IMHO. It has the biggest number of pieces and lots of different shapes. Aesthetically, it also has (arguably) the most recognisable theming of all the original tilesets. It does a great job of looking like it's actually hot! Crystal, on the other hand, is its spiritual opposite - cool, mysterious and almost space-themed. It's heaven, whilst Fire is hell. Or, if you prefer, the two could be seen as Fire and Ice ;P

I chose Fire because I think it deserves a few more votes, but I'd happily have voted for Crystal as well since it's arguably the best-looking of the sets. It also formed the basis for much of the willlem_lemminas tileset.

Suggestion: add the Oh No! tilesets to this poll as well, and maybe allow users to vote for more than 1 set. Say, up to a maximum of 3.

Good topic!

EDIT: Incidentally, my top 3 favourite levels from L1 are in Fire and Crystal: Mary Poppins' Land, Take A Running Jump and POOR WEE CREATURES!

Nah. I want this to be a more typical pole e.g. only voting once

I really like them all but Crystal is my favorite. :D I love its dark and mysterious feeling and it contains every shape needed to build cool and/or weird things. Also, as in Marble and Fire, the thin stick pieces are very useful to make puzzles!

I think all original tilesets are just great, they absolutely nailed it.

If I have to pick one I'd say marble. Some of the best original Lemmings levels are made in marble (It's Hero Time!, No Added Colours or Lemmings, Just A Minute come to mind) and I really like the crisp and clean colours of the pink/red and acid green.

It's difficult to choose only one of them!
They all look beautiful
But if I need to pick only one.. probably dirt.

My favourite is the Marble tileset.

Here is my list from favourite to least favourite (There is no original tileset I dislike though, I love them all!!):

Marble
Pillar
Dirt
Crystal
Fire

Very hard to pick just one as the original tilesets are all so good. If I had to rank all 160-ish NeoLemmix tilesets in a tier list, the five original styles would all be high up and very close together.

I chose Marble as my top favourite, because levels made with it are really beautiful when done well (then again, that's true of the other sets too); many of the bricks come in nice grid-friendly sizes; it has a nice balance of straight-edged and rough terrain; it can create a wide variety of atmospheres, from ancient ruins to lonely seascapes to a modern factory.
