I can take over hosting if it's okay with you. If it helps, I'll gather the nominated levels and music as well.
Sure, feel free.

Okay, I will take over the hosting of this contest. Look after yourself namida. :)

Everyone who still wishes to take further part in this contest, please PM me the skillset you wish to use (do NOT post it publicly). You may choose up to 8 different skills, and you can pick no more than 4 from the following: Platformer, Builder, Stacker, Basher, Fencer, Miner and Digger. To be clear, nothing has changed from before.

If I receive skillsets from every participant by midday UTC on April 2nd, we will move ahead with the original schedule, otherwise I will extend the deadline of this phase to midday UTC on April 7th (one week from this post).

The levels that have been nominated are available in the attachments of this post. Feel free to have a look if you have yet to decide on the skillset you want to use. There are 32 levels here, and when the contest begins, it will be reduced to 20 levels, decided by randomization.

If you're having issues with the downloads, please let me know.

[NOTE] This is NOT the final level set. Please go to the first post of this topic (posted by namida) if you're after those.

Everybody has submitted their skillsets before April 2nd, so the contest will stick to the original deadline. Thank you for your quick responses everyone. :)

Tomorrow evening (I'm aiming for 18:00 UTC), I will be using a randomizer to determine the levels that will be played in the contest. I will be in the Brick Room on the Discord server as I do this so that you can watch it happen if you want to. After the levels have been determined, I will upload the authoritative level pack on here, and the contest will begin for real at that point.

The levels that will be used for this contest has been determined. They have been attached to the first post, and the music has been attached to this post.

The playing phase will close at midday UTC on 24th April, or if 72 hours have passed after everybody has submitted their results without anyone resubmitting an improved result.

For clarification:
- You have a maximum of 25 of each skill that you have picked to distribute across the entire 20-level pack.
- The release rates and time limits have not been adjusted for this contest.
- If you decide not to save any lemmings on some levels, this is perfectly acceptable. Feel free to only use your skills on the levels that you can get results from.
- If you are ready to submit your results, compile your replays into a zip file, then send me a PM with the zip file attached. Make sure there is only one replay per level you have solved, and do NOT tell me how many lemmings you have saved.
- You are allowed to resubmit your results if you have found an improvement. When the contest closes, the latest submission that you have sent me will be used, even if an earlier submission would've yielded better results.
- If you have picked the Cloner, and you haven't used all 25 of them, the ones you have not used will NOT be converted to lemmings saved.
- The person who has saved the most lemmings will win the contest. Any ties will be broken by fewest total skills used.
- NeoLemmix V12.11.2 is the authoritative version for this contest. Make sure you use this version when taking part.

This is likely something that should probably be decided on a case-by-case basis, but I would suggest disallowing repeat levels between contests in future if and only if the skillset rules follow the same pattern as these first two contests (i.e. 8 skills, 25 of each, limited choice)

Conversely, if and only if the skillset rules are significantly different each time, then repeat levels should be allowed.

There are two reasons I'm thinking along these lines:

a) If the skillset rules remain largely constant between contests*, then the levels should absolutely be the variable factor each time - this is to prevent the same solutions being used as in previous contests. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but it does make for a less interesting contest, even if only by 1 level.

b) It also means that new players can potentially use the same solutions used by previous contestants; admittedly, this is if the skillsets happen to be similar enough to crossover on the skills used for that level and if the previous solutions are known to the new player - an unlikely set of circumstances, but worth considering. If we take it to the extreme and the levels are always the same each time, then the tendency will always be to choose the optimum skillset and solutions for that set of levels, and the results will naturally converge. Changing either levels or skillset rules significantly each time prevents this.

*For the record, I am strongly in favour of variations in the skillset rules each time. Since these first 2 contests have used a very similar set of rules, I can see this becoming a recurring theme, or at least a "go-to" in the absence of either better ideas, or the inclination to try out different ones.

There is one week left in this contest. I repeat, there is ONE WEEK remaining! Make sure you have submitted a replay set to me by the 24th of April 12:00 UTC, preferably earlier than that so that I can confirm in advance that your solutions don't exceed the skill use limit.

In the meantime, without revealing anyone's skillsets, here's some trivia about the skills everybody has chosen.

Skill selection trivia

Out of 9 people and 19 skills...

  • Two people have picked identical skillsets.
  • Five people are using skillsets that would've been illegal in the last contest (but they are valid in this one).
  • There are two skills that everybody has picked.
  • There are four skills that nobody has picked.
  • One person has picked a skill that nobody else has.
  • There is one skill that someone hasn't picked that everybody else has.

Don't forget; if all entrants have submitted their replays and 72 hours have passed without any players re-submitting, the competition will end early
