Oblivion sound effect too noisy and high pitched.

All the other sound effects are fine, but the oblivion effect is as annoying as ever, as it has been over the years (I think given that this has been mentioned so late after its release, we must all be wondering why this hasn't been talked about earlier). :lix-dead: Have a listen and you'll see.

I don't know how to create OGG files but whoever can I'd suggest making the pitch at least an octave lower and cut the volume in half too.

I don't usually upload sounds but this is what it sounds like at the moment.

I've never second-guessed this loud whistling, but as you're explaining it, yes, I agree that it's too loud and sharp. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm perfectly fine changing the sound for the next release. I'll either take your idea, or see if I can get something completely new.

I agree, especially in multiplayer or when testing things the sound adds up and should be made milder.
For reference this is now issue 388.

I messed around with the sound and made a version with lower pitch and more silent. But I'm not experienced in it, so it's rather a suggestion for last resort.

Thanks, this is very good already. It's lower-pitched and can't be mistaken for water. I'll see how it feels in game.

Neither the original nor this sounds like lix voice-acting. That's in line with all other dying sounds, none of them are voice-acting.

I just saw this now: Definitely less annoying than the last one. Good job. 8-)

I've tried Forestidia's oblivion.ogg from reply #3 in the game. It's very fitting and not annoying. I'd like to make it louder -- then it will still be slightly quieter than other sounds.

It can then go in the next release. Whenever that will be. :lix-mystery:

Sadly a problem occured:
The sound cracks if many lix fall to their death probably since then the sound is cut off by Lix. This is to prevent the sounds from getting too loud if many overlap.
Does anybody that has knowledge of sound design has an idea to fix this?

In December 2019 in 0.9.30, we replaced oblivion.wav with a better sound that doesn't crack.

The key to avoid cracking was likely to have the sound effect cut nicely at 1/60 seconds and at 1/15 seconds. Experimenting with different sounds and speeds was good.

Thus, this is okay now!
