Being able to see everything [happening on a large map] at once is far better. Lix would be greatly enhanced by an improved resolution to allow for this experience in game... * hint, hint, Simon *

Hear hear!

We now have these super high-resolution displays, but very few game developers actually use them, instead preferring to stick to the old ways of keeping the relative sizes of things the same as always to the viewer, whilst adding a little more detail. Just to cite one example of a game being better for bucking this trend, the game Spelunky wouldn't be what it is if it didn't make such good use of HD displays - the fact that you can see more changes how you play. Any Lemmings-like game could have a whole lot of potential for interesting puzzles and uses of that sort of space, should a level's designer feel it appropriate to use it.

At the very least, a widescreen layout is probably a good idea. Implement the minimap from Lemmings as the rest of the status bar maybe?

Hmm, doesn't this have fairness implications though for multiplayer?  That someone with more expensive monitor can potentially see more than the player with the cheap monitor?

I suppose this could be less of an issue if Simon implements the ability to zoom out regardless of display resolution.

It's a very good suggestion, but a hard one to realize.

Getting a higher resolution from the graphics library is easy. The problem is with the hardcoded UI sizes. Most of the game, especially the GUI, would have to be made much more flexible to adjust to different resolutions. It wasn't designed flexibly from the start.

I have no problem with game balance. Right now, better keyboard, mouse, faster computer, faster ping will already provide advantages. If someone is able to select a higher resolution, he should be able to. :-)
