In Custlemm, is the joystick in F4 the controller? If so, what type of controller works with it? I tried using my SNES USB controller and it wouldn't response when it said to insert a joystick and press the fire button. I would prefer playing with a controller, than the mouse. Can it move the skill bar left and right without the + cursor like in the SNES Lemmings?

Are you running Custlemm natively or inside Dosbox? In the first case, you probably won't get anything other than gameport or parallel port devices to work.

In case of Dosbox, do other games work with the USB pad? I remember Jazz Jackrabbit and Commander Keen did so when I tried it myself with one.

I believe that because of DOS Lemmings' age, it won't register more than 1-2 buttons, and thus not offer skill selection via buttons.

If you're under Windows, a hackish solution is to use http://www.autohotkey.com/" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">Autohotkey and remap the gamepad's axes and buttons to send keyboard keystokes. Then inside Custlemm, use the keyboard option in the F4 menu. This is more difficult to accomplish if you have analog axes that you want to remap, but Autohotkey has a sample skript for that in the help files.

I'm just running Custlemm from the fodder that it came with and I have no idea how to get Dosbox to work with Custlemm. I'm gonna have to use the mouse if I don't want to deal with more software that is too complex for me to set up. (cough Lemmix cough)

Yeah sorry, USB isn't even invented yet at the time of PC Lemmings, so your SNES USB controller will not work for the joystick mode of PC Lemmings, if you run CustLemm directly without an emulator like DOSBox.

Frankly this is the first time I heard of someone wanting to get the joystick to work on a computer-based version of Lemmings.  I know you're used to PSP and all, but I think you'll find that the mouse is quite natural to use for Lemmings if you give it a try.

You can also access the skills bar without clicking on it by using F1-F12 keys on your keyboard (ie. F1 maps to the "-" button on the bar, F2 "+", F3 climber, etc.), even in mouse mode.  It's pretty common I think for players of computer-based (PC, Mac, Amiga, etc.) versions of Lemmings to have their dominant hand on the mouse and their other hand on the keyboard, to make use of this "mixed" mode of input.

I tried the F1-F12 trick and it's cool. The only problem is that my Laptop is a Lenovo-Thinkpad. Four of each buttons are separated, http://www.mybestlaptop.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/lenovo-thinkpad-t400-61.jpg" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">http://www.mybestlaptop.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/lenovo-thinkpad-t400-61.jpg so it will take some getting use to, but it's better than nothing. The mouse is fine. There was just this one part of my level where I need to click on dig fast or else I'll have to wait for him to turn around and come back.

Edit: I figured out a trick. I just gotta keep my fingers on the important skills that I really need the most and let my mouse click on the other ones. Problem solved.
