I just got a super nintendo, and the Lemmings game, but I have no idea how to make it work.  How do you change the lemmings' functions?  I.e. turning them into a builder, digger, etc.? 

I'm been pressing every button imaginable and all I get is a bunch of lemmings running back and forth until the time runs out.  I'm going crazy!

I don't remember it being very difficult... perhaps try holding a button (A, B, X, or Y) and pressing left and right to select skills.

I believe you can move the cursor down to the skills and click on them with B, if needed.  Other than that, I believe it was either X and Y or L and R that swapped between them.

X: select skill to the right of currently selected skill (from climber to floater, bomber, blocker, builder, basher, miner, digger and back to climber)
Y: select skill to the left of currently selected skill (from climber to digger, miner, basher, builder, blocker, bomber, floater and back to climber)
A: activate skill, activate release rate signs
start: pause or unpause game
