What does Lix change from the Lemmings engine?

Hi everyone, new poster here. I signed up because I started feeling nostalgic for Lemmings and was very impressed by how much fan content there is nowadays!

I downloaded Lix and obviously it has six new abilities. It also has some of the "bouncing" physics from Lemmings 2 and some QOL features similar to NeoLemmix. The bat-swinging ability is hilarious btw. I am wondering though what else changes from the basic Lemmings engine? Are there new stage mechanics (like Neolemmix's switches and teleporters), for example?

Also are the creatures in Lix referred to as "Lixes"?

The major differences of Lix from other engines is the fact it's completely it's own character, and there's network multiplayer.

They're may be some other minor differences, the bat is useful for killing your opponents Lix in multiplayer. I know Lix has traps that don't kill the Lix but prepoll them forward, or make them float up which I don't think other engines have.

The plural form of "lix" is either "lix" or "lixes."

Welcome to the forums, and thanks for trying Lix!

The game physics should be mostly familiar. You'll find subtle nuances in the physics that differ between Lix, NeoLemmix, and Lemmings 1 or 2. You can assign a miner to lix directly on steel, to turn the lix. Ground-removing skills are more sensitive to steel. Platformers gain height in Lix, but not in NeoLemmix.

Directly compared to NeoLemmix, Lix has no switches, no teleporters, no one-way walls, no time limits, no talismans (achievements). The spawn interval (a.k.a. release rate) is fixed per level; the level author chooses it, and the player cannot change it during play. The nuke cannot be part of a solution either. When you nuke in Lix, exits close. It's only you and the skill (ability) assignments.

Singleplayer Lix tries to remove all execution difficulty with the quality-of-life features. This is like NeoLemmix. It's unlike classical Lemmings or SuperLemmix's classic mode.

Multiplayer Lix is the opposite; it's a competitive real-time game. To try multiplayer, the best way is to start with a friend who hasn't played Lix before either, and discover strategy together.

In the future, I am considering to add neutral lix (which nobody controls). They will be interesting both in puzzles and in multiplayer battles. I'm also considering pre-placed lix (single lix that already exist in the level in addition to the crowd that spawns from a hatch).

The creatures in Lix are lix. Both the singular and plural of lix is lix, and in-game text uses this form consistently. Colloquially, the plural is lixes.

Welcome to the community Barahir and thanks for trying Lix  :lix-cool:

If the multiplayer aspect of Lix is of any interest to you, we do have multiplayer sessions about once a month on average (there won't be a session this month though due to the festivities).

As Simon has said, it is best to experience the multiplayer with 1 other person first since it can take a bit of getting used to. We have an IRC channel where someone might be willing to play if you join and message the channel.

(Just type your username and put #lix as the channel)

The next larger multiplayer session will most likely be sometime in January, there's usually 5-6 people there average (me and Simon are usually there!) and we play for about 2-3 hours playing various different maps. Anyone is welcome to join these sessions  :lix-evil:

I have also written a text guide to the Lix multiplayer with illustrations if you are interested in the multiplayer strategy theory. It has helped some people improve at the game recently from what I have seen since it was published  :lix-smile:
