The upwards movement check is relaxed for the first stop; it's the downwards movement check (any downwards movement = cancel) that isn't. But perhaps this too should be relaxed for the first stroke.

Is there any objection to allowing a limited amount of downwards movement (perhaps maximum 2 pixels) during the first stroke? If not, I will make this change.
