Hi,

the forum's RSS feed provides the last 5 posts.

I think that this is too little, as they often get cluttered with posts from n word stories threads or the like. The interesting posts from the general discussion topics aren't shown there completely, even if one checks the feed daily.

Could the number of posts in the RSS feed be set higher? 20 or 25 would be very nice, as the bandwith required for such feeds is very little.

What does "RSS" stand for? http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/huh.gif" alt="???" title="Huh?" class="smiley" />

This forum has an RSS feed? That's news to me http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/laugh.gif" alt=":D" title="Laugh" class="smiley" />

It certainly needs more than just the last 5 posts. Also, I don't see the value in including posts from Forum Games (is it possible to remove these? I have no idea how this thing works http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/undecided.gif" alt=":-\" title="Undecided" class="smiley" />)

"Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary".

Mr. K

I don't see a setting in the admin panel to increase the number of posts, but I'll see if I can do some manual edits or something.

Simon

That would be great. Thanks for your time in advance!

Same here!

Okay, I'd like to propose this once more. Please raise the number of items in the news feed, to something around 20.

http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/XML_feeds" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">Link to SMF Wiki about how to raise items in feed as an admin.

I've been polling the feed (currently last 5 messages) every 20 minutes for the past years. This is highly inefficient compared to polling each hour or two, both for the user and the webserver. However, anything slower risks having messages skipped when the forum users get busy.

If you need any more help, ask. Thanks!

Mr. K

I think you're misinterpreting the page, actually.  Turns out this isn't an admin command at all.  All I can do is turn RSS on and off.  The individual options can be set by anyone accessing the page.  Just use anything on that page and modify the RSS url.

For example, this URL will give you a feed of the last 20 posts as requested:  http://www.lemmingsforums.com/index.php?action=.xml;type=rss;limit=20" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">http://www.lemmingsforums.com/index.php?action=.xml;type=rss;limit=20

Simon

Hah, that is amazing. :D Will use that from now on, thanks!
