I'd love it if Cheapo was revived, and redone.
This list includes things that were added in.

SCRAP

Support of formats similar to .mod (ex. .xm, .it)

Yeah, it would probably have to be recoded.

If anything gets changed in Cheapo, I just want it to be backwards compatible so I don't lose all the work I've done on my styles and levels. (Talking of which, I'm still working on the levels -- just waiting until I have at least 10 updated in the newest versions of the styles before I release them.)

Pooty

I would gladly use Cheapo if it wasn't so in-your-face regarding the Spice Girls. If Cheapo was to be redone, getting rid of the Spice Girls and their songs would be the number one thing I would request.
SEGA Master System version
100% on 110/120 levels (92%). Other levels [Lemmings lost]:
Fun 03 [3], 06 [2], 18 [5]
Taxing 19 [5], 27 [1], 28 [3]
Tricky 15 [5], 17 [2]
Mayhem 19 [7], 26 [10]

Mr. K

I think it'd be more appropriate to make some kind of spiritual sequel, rather than a remake.  What I like about Cheapo is that it's way more customizable than what can be obtained using Lemedit/Lemmix/etc, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.  Something new could be made that pushes the limits further and improves upon the style making process (which I always found tedious)

Dullstar

I wonder if I could take out the spice girls with a hex editor or something?

Well hold on for another second. Cheapo was just a clone of the Original Lemmings game, with all the same types of skill in comparison.

I found the Lemmings executive DOS remake recently created by EricLang, so why wouldn't you focus on that?

Anyway, I love the Spice Girls but I wouldn't disagree with you about it too much. I do only want just one track from them. I also know that "Essman" the creator of Cheapo has Soul Asylum, TMBG, REM and Oasis along with the Spice girls.

Because there are enough Lemmings clones and remakes out there already. What makes Cheapo unique is the extra features that no other Lemmings clone has -- vertical scrolling levels; customisable styles (and hence you can add your own music, no need to keep the Spice Girls at all); ability to design your own terrain, traps, lemming animations, title screen background images, the whole lot. Calling it "just" a clone of Original Lemmings is rather like calling the Earth "just" a planet.

Whoa. That's a lot of stuff here. Maybe I wasn't interested by the game mechanics or something http://www.lemmingsforums.com/Smileys/lemmings/undecided.gif" alt=":-\" title="Undecided" class="smiley" />

Without the original source code and Essman around, it would be difficult to make any significant changes to Cheapo.  It would be interesting though (and doable given the author and source code are still around) to extend Lemmix or Lemmini to support all those nice extra features that Cheapo has.

Dullstar

Maybe we should find a team of volunteers to start it from scratch.

GuyPerfect

I see a whole thread full of such volunteers right here. (-:

Ron_Stard

I don't remember its name, but, wasn't Peter Spada/Essman working now on a more ambitious project inspired by Cheapo?

You're thinking of Dimwits, which there's been no news on for years.
