Lemmings Main / 'Lemmings are Ducks' music track
July 03, 2022, 09:43:12 PM
I have stumbled across this lemmings song on youtube called 'Lemmings are Ducks' by CoLD SToRAGE (Tim Wright).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOuJnDohI2o

The soundfont for the track is identical to tim8 orig_5 (4 Cygnets) on the Amiga Lemmings - possible another unreleased track to be use an alternative to tim8 track maybe?

I have watched the video of Commodore Amiga 'Cartoon Classics' at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hmhnc2WvqmI for a bit of nostalgia. But as I watched and looked at the rear box art at time index between 1:03 and 1:06, there is a Lemmings 1 screenshot of a hell level that does not seem to appear in the original game. It is the left image, amusingly a massive epic fail with looks like a bomber hole in the floor with a a line of lemmings falling to their doom, a hole in the stair, and a bomber exploding in the lava. The right image depicts the level "Watch out, there's traps about" with already dug/mined tunnels with blockers at the top and a floater mid-float and lemmings roaming around the bottom floor.

Try this - something tells me that his is a bug.

Step 1: Open Neolemmix player (I have been using v12.10.2 for this) and go to 'Level Select' or if on level preview screen or level end screen, click 'Select Level'.
Step 2: Pick a level and select 'OK' on level select window.
Step 3: On level preview screen, click 'Select Level'.
Step 4: Pick a different level and click 'Cancel' on the level select window.
Step 5: On level preview screen, click 'Continue'.

If you follow these steps, the level that you play is the level that you select from step 4 instead of playing the level that you select in step 2 including swapping out the music to play the 'original lemmings equivalent' instead of the playing custom music except within the same pack.
If you also complete the swapped level, it marks the level you select in step 2 as 'solved'.
If attempting to 'read' a talisman on the level preview screen on step 5 before continuing will throw an 'argument out of range' error. It is also possible to collect talismans via the swapped level but only within the same level pack.

Lemmings Main / Amiga Lemmings Sound Effects
December 09, 2020, 12:31:35 PM
I have managed to rip the sound effects from Lemmings 1 and are used in the 'First Generation' Lemmings games that got released on the Amiga (e.g. Lemmings 1, Oh No More, Xmas, Holliday, etc.). I used Lemmings 1 with the WinUAE Amiga Emulator's sound ripper. This will add some nostalgic from the Amiga days and will compliment WillLem's 'Amiga Lemmings' level pack and other fan conversions of the official lemmings games and levels that are available from the usual areas of the forums.

Can be used in Neolemmix, Lemmings For Windows, (Super)Lemmini.

Some interesting notes:
The 'CHAIN' effect has a thunk at the end, mainly used for the pillar rope trap
The marble 'squasher' trap uses the 'TENTON' effect
Most other sounds are either up a scale or down a scale
The 'CHINK' effect sounds more metallic and the 'TING' sound that's used for builders is more 'brick-ish'
The 'YIPPEE' effect is more of a deep 'boing'
The 'DIE' effect plays on all types of traps including fire and water when music plays and it is more pronounced.
The 'CHANGEOP' sound has no change from its other counterparts.

The Turner...? How would such a skill work in a 2D environment?

Regarding the 'nuke' issue, I have been testing the cycles option in the dosbox config file. 60,000 to 65,000 cycles appears to be the upper 'ideal' limit (for me anyways) for comfortably activating the 'nuke' with double click. I suggest that you test this for yourself as different system configurations may yield different results.

The 'Anti-Data-Loss' algorithm is working, but I fear though that Delphi is not supporting the decompression algorithm. The reason being is that in the Delphi version now simply refuses to decompress the levels for viewing in the editor even after un-checking the 'read only' status in the folder properties. The attachment might provide more insight.

Surprisingly the Lazarus version loads levels flawlessly and seems to run quicker but there may still be bugs to squash. So I am gong to have a play around that version and see what's up.  Please note that I have not applied any patches to L3D at this point as I have restored my L3D game folder from a pre-patched backup.

I am not sure what happened with the latest L3DEdit update Namida but L3DEdit is deleting level files every time I try to open either the 'BLK' or the 'LEVEL' files. Then a cmd prompt type window opens for a split second (see attachment), then this message appears.

Cannot open File
(directory here)... L3D\LEVELS\LEVEL.nnn
The system cannot find the file specified

(where nnn is the level number)

The L3DEditD.exe is in the L3D folder.

EDIT: I have copied my entire L3D game from my L3D CD to the same L3D directory.

One bug that I have discovered that in certain circumstances that the nuke button does not work when double clicking on it as intended. Instead, you have to use ALT+Q to actively 'nuke' the level or press the escape key to end or retry the level. Especially if you have blockers and/or turners about the level after the puzzle have been solved.

EDIT: The double click on the nuke button does work but due to high frame rate, you have to do your 'double click' stupidly fast to activate the 'nuke',.

Downloaded and tested Nessy, proper spacing on the level names is verified. :)

Two more broken levels found but this time, in the Official Extra Levels - Genesis rank - yet to do the other ranks of this pack:

The first is level 46 'No Hurry, Relax' where you normally have to use the left most wall to be used to turn the worker lemming around climbing up and floating back down. However I did manage to find an alternate solution (see attached replay).

The other is level 47 'Lemmings' Ark' where you have to use the right hand wall to turn climbers around.

Both levels again used to use the top of the level to achieve this but now not possible due to the top-of-level kill zone.

Other ranks to to do, expect a few more to pop up.

Update: I have completed all the Official Packs available to the New Format version of Neolemmix, rest of the levels are ok.

Just being playing through the Official Lemmings Packs and gotten so far as the Holiday Lemmings 93/94 pack. All levels so far I have complete except one:

Frost 12 - It's Boxing day!

The official solution usually involves using the area where the terrain meets the top of the level to the left of the steel box area to turn the lemmings around for the 'next bit'. But since the top of the level is now a 'kill zone', introduced in the new format version of Neolemmix, the level is now unsolvable. I essentially tried just about all the tricks in the book but I always fall short of the lemming requirement every time (any ideas?).

If I find more unsolvable levels as I play through the other official packs since their re-releases to the new format, I will post about them here.

Cheers

I seem to have an alternate design for the Level 9 Flurry 'A Block From Home' from my DOS copy of Holiday Lemmings 1994. I have attached a screenshot of the level in question. If you would like me to upload the extracted .lvl file, I will do so.

Lemmings Main / New Year Lemmings 1991/92
February 08, 2017, 05:03:28 PM
Has anyone here has herd of the Amiga Lemmings game called 'New Year Lemmings 1991/92'?

Basically it is a small pack of 5 levels for the Commodore Amiga. The title screen looks like an xmas pack but the levels themselves look like an ONML demo since the lemmings are not wearing any santa suits and uses the ONML tilesets.

Here is a video on the 'World Of Longplays" Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TajGodlv-Fw if you would like to see the levels.

Thank you for your input and taking your time to answer, as I like to be a bit on the cautious side when I download anything. Now that I know that NeoLemmix (or any other Lemmings, Lix, etc. package for that matter) is safe to use.
