Lemmings Main / Re: Which Lemmings was your first?
July 30, 2023, 04:45:39 PM
DOS here, packaged with ONML. Kid me, probably like 9 or 10, played until the levels I got stuck on (Taxing 13, Mayhem 9, Tricky/Fun beaten) then stopped, then restarted some time later and cleared both games. Then got into level development around 13-14 and; Oops oh no! more of my Lemmings!

I made a fair number of my levels drunk, so, yea. Both conceptualizing and making in whatever editor I was using at the time.

If you like pencil and paper style puzzles, I highly recommend Instructionless Grid:
https://ig.logicpuzzle.app

It's.... as the name suggests, there's 100 puzzles, I think I got about 30 or so on my own but I believe the dev intended to have them solved as teams.

(At least in the US) Yahtzee comes with a notepad with scorecards and a cup to roll the dice in, which if you're being a bit cheeky about it, can count as the board, so you could argue that it has both cards and boards ;)

Also checked out the Yahtzee analyzer for a bit and got a Yahtzee first try ah hahahaha, not sure if that's scripted or not but sure, you take those.

King of the Castle on any version.

I was about to link the NES version of this level but uh, yea, never enjoyed this stage at all. On any version.

Just watched - thanks for a dope stream! At this point, I do have to skip a fair amount due to not wanting to spoil solutions for some levels

Thoughts on levels I wrote:

WhyTree:
Spoiler
Not exactly as I did this, but I think the real backroute designator is "is the two drillers/imploder" way to turn some number of Lix on top not needed? You sent fewer climbers both over and under than I did, but I think I overcomplicated this, and the skills essentially went where they needed to. Think this level's now good, but might be a bit easier than its current position due to the new terrain clue?

No More Heroes:
Spoiler
Pretty much as intended. The floater is a decoy skill iirc. When I wrote this, time limits in levels were still allowed, so may want to re-visit because it was originally lose 3 but a blocker was needed to beat the timer.

Lix Levels / Re: Lemforum backroute fixes, Lix 0.10.x

Those both look good, thanks! The changes to both remove the found backroutes while keeping in the intended ones.

Watching Ramon's playthough, earmarking backroute fixes for Wait Why is There a Tree and (oddly), Chasm.

Spoiler
Chasm's intended route is exactly as Ramon played it. I found something that skips the cuber on the bottom, which is part of how I wrote this level. I think the fix isn't too tough (Ramon's route should work while my backroute shoudn't) and that this won't change the level difficulty relative to other levels in the pack.

Awwwwww Cheapo Copycat Game, good memories. I still have it on my computer but for like my last 10-15 years of computers it always runs way slower that on the computers I had when it first came out for some reason.

Lix Levels / Re: Ramond streams lemforum, 2022-12

Heh, I said I wouldn't really ask for many backroute fixes to my levels, but Wait Why Is There A Tree is far enough from intended to where I'd call it one.
Spoiler
Any solution where the imploder on the bottom doesn't come in falling facing left from the top of the tower I'd call a backroute, this requires the spare driller.

Fortunately I think the fix is pretty easy:
Spoiler
Put a third "notch" on the gold pillar so that a builder where Ramon put it can't climb-bomb the top wall, but where one that builds from the very top of the tower to the left will.

Nice work finding it, though! Also, terrific job solving so far! Looking forward to the future vids (especially Hopeless)!

wrt the levels I wrote for this game:

Snowjump is.... odd, but it's kind of meant to be a "how do you do this with *that* skillset" type of level. Cunning is the right difficulty for it but where it goes or not I don't care really.
Watch Ye Step is late Cunning to mid-Daunting imo, upranking or not is fine.
I honestly don't know how 3.1.1.1 wound up as V38. Agree to drop to Daunting.

Removing Too Much Stepping Stones is fine. Derailed Level kinda does this kind of route better, anyways. I personally think Derailed Level is late-Daunting to mid-Vicious, but yea this type of solution is odd and plays well with the way my mind thinks as a player.

PS: Ferry Tale is way too hard for Lovely. I'd put it in Cunning before Lovely, but late Quirky feels right?

Every level I wrote for this pack is fine. Backroutes or not.

ngl this was a lot of fun to play with Boggle rules, that is, your words count iff they are unique amongst the other players. I got to 20, here's my list in the order I found them (bold words were unique from TW and mobius)

I put the floor in in "This is too much Stepping Stones" as a red herring route on purpose, nice work showing that it can be worked out. 100% ok with leaving that in as an alternative solution. It's harder to do than the intended solution anyways :P

@Wibble: Also, loving the heck out of your comments on the levels in this pack. Been a few years since the harder stuff I wrote for it, but looking forward to your attempts at them :) Honestly a lot of what Lemmings as it was is about is trying to find wild solutions to levels that still work - so if your solution works, it works. I think every alternative route to a level I have written for Lix except for Chasm, of all levels, works. Resort if needed. Also note, backroutes exist for a reason :P

@Forestidia: Same, I'm in weird lurking mode since you've beaten a lot more of the levels I put in this pack so *shrug*

Non-Lemmings Gaming / Re: Baba is You (puzzle game)

As far as length for price goes, one of the beta testers (who is way better at puzzle games than I am) just finished a 100% run, and that took him 40 hours despite having seen a lot of the levels in some form. The game has a lot of content (and some well-hidden secrets from what I've heard, though I've yet to find any).

That said,

Spoiler
you can beat the game any% in under 2 hours, but you miss most of the game's content if you do.
