I just found
this site - a functional (though not very informative) Lemmings wiki.
Would it be worthwhile to contribute to this, or try to create something like it? Do you guys like the wiki style?
I may contribute to this wiki. It already exists, I don't see much point in making another.
Why make another one? Might as well just improve it...
When I say "create something like it", I mean some sort of on-site information centre that forum members can edit. Civfanatics has something like this and it seems to work well.
I think making a new one would be better then adding to a dead one.
It's only dead if people don't add to it.
So, if we added to it, like I've started to, it's not dead.
Simple math.
Nm looks like it is static.
Only one way to change that, isn't there...
I'm gonna try to add as much detail on the various ports of Lemmings I've played, and maybe some Lemmings 2 details.
Making our own wiki is pointless if nobody would edit it.
There's already a wiki nobody is editing.
There'd just be two unedited wikis.
So why not just pick up where they left off.
After all, the whole point of a wiki is you contribute.
So...
...contribute.
I'm not a fan of Wikis myself.. but that's because I like things to look nice. Wikis are incredibly difficult to style from my past experience. I think it'd be worth saving a copy of any contributions any of us make to the wiki in case Wikia goes kaput. If we as a forum can make it a proper Lemmings Wiki, I think it'd be a fantastic resource for people looking to find out more about Lemmings!

I see some progress already

. Later on we might even be able to add cool stuff that no one has done before, like glitches. Bulbapedia (Pokemon wiki) has awesome pages about glitches and other quirks - I can see a Lemmings wiki having something similar.
Just don't go putting all your time into this over other projects

.
The Wiki needs, like, a thousand more articles, there's barely anything on there.
Well, like I say, only one way to make those pages.... and that's to make them.
There was actually a wiki created by the people of this forum. I seem to have deleted the bookmark, though it's out there - somewhere. It was eventually abandoned, and had a large number of articles as well, if I recall, many of which I made or contributed to.
If anyone has the URL tucked away somewhere, it'd be appreciated. =P

covox was hosting it. it's dead, and has been for a long time :/
Is it even still in existence?
Hmm, I don't know what I want to do.
I have just added several articles to this Wiki by going through the list of levels and adding ones in for the red links. However, I, for obvious reasons, didn't go through all of them. They can wait a while longer until I get around to them.
Is there still any interest in this? It's gone awfully quiet in the last few weeks. My schedule has cleared somewhat, so I might join up and start working on this. I can't do everything on my own though

I can see this becoming a great place to get information about Lemmings, if we contribute to it. (Then again, I can equally well see it staying as it is for some time

) Lemmings-related stuff has never been greatly organised, and I think the game deserves better.
I've gone through and added articles for all the ONML levels, plus Xmas 91 and 92. (Some kind soul did the original levels a couple of weeks ago). Now that the boring stuff is mostly out of the way, we can start adding something interesting to this.
Most people seem to agree that we should not give up on it. I could have contributed if I hadn't been on vacation for the last several days.
While I'm bumping old threads, I might as well do this one as well. The
wiki is looking pretty much the same as it did after I added all those pages a few months back. This site has a lot of potential - Lemmings doesn't have much in the way of a centralised information archive, and this could be it.
I almost forgot about that wiki, mainly because of the constant bookmark losing (my computer was doing a great job sucking).
Hey, I know - we can make an article about L++. And Lemmix, and Cheapo, and Lemmini...
Thanks for the bump -- I hadn't known about this before.
Although there are articles on all the levels, they aren't very informative, so it would be good if between us we could add as much information as we can (as well as pictures). I'm doing "The Steel Mines of Kessel"
Yeah, it's mostly bare pages at this point. Still, better that than no pages at all...
I'll try and add a little more information every day, and gradually it will build up

I hadn't realised the "Level" subheading was meant for the solution to the level -- I will rename this heading "Solutions" since many levels have more than one.
I have created an L++ article. Although those Flash ads are so annoying. Thank goodness for Firefox add-ons.
The worst ads disappear when you sign in. It's a mean little incentive to sign up instead of editing anonymously

I'm improving the articles on skills right now, and I might add in the L2 ones today as well. I've also expanded the page on Lemmings 3.
Remember, the more people who get on board here, the faster we can build this up and get it looking great. (Or alternatively, the less work each person has to do. Either way, it works out

)
The things hosted by Wikia don't let people under 13 sign up. I know I *could* lie, but that's something I just don't like to do. Ah well, I can put up with ads for the remainder of this month and then until December 20th.
I was involved with another wiki project for a while that was hosted on Wikia briefly. They flat-out broke the contract the wiki's administrator signed with them, and they started letting the ads go rampant. They gave us back the domain name and let us leave with only moderate legal threat.
I'm against Wikia on principle. It's run by a bunch of scumbags and the ads WILL get worse.
Care to tell us what this wiki was about?
I knew they were a bit dodgy with their "for-profit"-ness, but I've not heard anything terrible about them previously.
We should protest! Host our own Wiki! I'm sick of seeing World of Warcraft ****ing everywhere (also, those Lord of the Rings ads are pretty distracting, so I'm going to have to agree with Ubuntu forums logic - Try to avoid animated images for avatars, they are way too distracting. Same with ads). Plus, if anything, an ad will make me hate a product even more. Sometime I'll probably get shot for my extreme stance against WoW.

The problem is that Lemmings was a game made back in the early 90's, so only a few people would remember it, yet the Wiki stuff was made too late.

Remember the PSP version? That was made in 2006 and it may have caught some people's attention. But the PSP version was released nearly 4 years ago.

Speak of the devil... they just did. I went there just now and got an ad that doesn't move off the screen when you scroll. I've never had that on Wikia before.

How feasible is that? Do we have enough server space to host one?
Here's the requirements to have a MediaWiki-style wiki installed. You don't need 50MB to set it up, but it's a good idea to have more.
This website also has the required MySQL and PHP. Not sure about the other requirements.

"Lemmings Wiki. Adblock Plus & Flashblock required."
Since I've created an account on the Wikias when I worked on the Thomas The Tank Engine and Theodore Tugboat wikias, I think I might stop by here someday and edit, too.
If I don't do this only anonymously, I would probably have to set up another email address just because when they say they won't spam, I don't trust them.
