Thanks to the generosity of Lemmings Forums member
Adam, the forums have finally gained a real home. He has supplied a domain name as well as hosting that should not be going anywhere.
Unfortunately, due to the fiasco with the previous hosting, the forums had to be started over. Since isamedia.org melted I had no access to the FTP or the MySQL database, with no sign of access appearing in the future. The
previous location of the site will be kept up as long as possible as an archive of the last site, so if there's anything interesting, copy it over to here or save it or something. I'll see if I can procure a database backup to put on this webspace, though.
I've also done away with that silly portal, as I'd intended to actually make a website but never did, and in the end only a few level downloads were put up since there were far better places to upload them. Now the forums are the main focus just like they used to be. I've even put up a theme that's just like the forums were before the portal, and even in the original Lemmings Forums from before I took over.
I'm still working on setting up the Lemmings smileys, Lemmings-specific images in the theme, and some other things, but they'll be up soon.
Enjoy! Everything works again!
Ah, it looks great! Cheers to you and Adam (who I knew was gonna do this anyway

)
I particularly like the 'Lemmings forums' text in the header. PSP-one. Lovely
Hey everyone! We do have a new home!
I'll let everyone know if there's any planned downtime, and I'm happy to see the forums with a new home! Thanks for putting up with my mistakes this afternoon, Mr K!
Haha, no problem.
I'm just happy to see that the Lemmings community has a working home again.

Whoa... one minute I'm spamming the old place, and next thing I know I've gotta start all over again. Time to get to work on rebuilding my profile...
It's great to have a (hopefully permanent) home at last. Thanks Adam!
I've registered the Domain name for 12 months with it automatically renewing every 12 months, so we shouldn't be going anywhere quickly!
Clam Spammer... I hope you keep your old avatar! It was amazing!
I was thinking of changing it... but I don't know what to. So the old one it is
Nice

hopefully this should mitigate all of the uncertainty surrounding the old forum.
Mr. K, please keep at your efforts to get a SQL dump of the old forum. Some of the stuff on there (such as file format information, dialogue from Mike Dailly, etc) is far too valuable to lose. Failing that, let us know in advance if you plan to kill the old one off permanently so we can run a quick-n-dirty HTML page-save effort. We're counting on you
The look of this forum sure brings back memories...! I know I don't post often anymore, but it's great to see the community is still around.
Thanks, Adam!

I managed to pick up a database backup from the admin panel. Additionally, the previous server's owner let me know he does have a backup and will probably send it to me, so we'll have both of those.
I don't have plans to kill of the old Lemmings Community, but instead just make it view only and have it sit until it eventually disappears. Grab the info and repost it here, though, to make sure it's safe.
An Error Has Occurred!Wrong value type sent to the database. Integer expected. (size)
I gather there's a 65x65 pixel limit on avatars. I shrunk mine to make it fit and now I get this error.
Oops. I forgot to change the size limit, and as usual on new forums I set up, there are some problems with uploading stuff. I'll have both fixed in a sec.
edit: Fixed now. It is a bug in the forum version, but nothing a little tweak couldn't solve.
UPDATE: Old Lemmings Community has already been dismantled by previous host.
He's sending the data tomorrow, so nothing's been lost.
That was quick... what a rush

Avatar problem's fixed now. Thanks!
Looks like the board is up in a read only form at
http://henriwatson.com/lemmings/index.php
Well at least we have found a decent site address that is easy to remember. Hail to Mr K! Hopefully this place will be permanent. It looks good too

Shame we couldnt get all of the data transfered, but with the old location on read-only we may be able to do it a different way...
Weeeeeeee, we're back.
*updates bookmark to "Lemmings Forums 7"
Hey. SGB (or was it sb687? I can't remember) here under a different name. I've not posted for what must be at least a couple of years so no worries if no one recognises the name.

I've just seen the email about this place getting a new home so I thought I'd come and check it out. It's given me a bit of a Lemmings itch again - I may even get round to finally finishing the level pack that I started several years ago!
Cheers for sorting out a permanent home Adam! I look forward to occasionally contributing to it :-P

Now that you've finally got the data of the old forum, and considering that the new forum hasn't got much content up to now so that not much would be lost, is there a chance to still set up the forum with a software compatible with the database format of the old forum, or don't you intend to do this? If possible, that would be a decent option to still preserve the old data and keep the continuation of the threads.
Also/alternatively, could you provide a downloadable version of the forum data (threads & posts) like you did last time? I'd be very grateful for this, as that would ensure that the data won't get lost for anyone who decides to save it.
Anyway, thanks Adam/Ksoft that a new lemmings forum is up and running again so quickly.
We're on the same software as before, actually. The big issue with restoring the database to the old one is that I don't have direct access to a MySQL admin software and also only a single database anyway. Additionally, over the years the thing has become bogged down from server change after server change and there's a lot of mix mashed data in it from old stuff like the switch from phpBB to SMF, and the addition of that crappy portal.
I'll see if I can setup an archival version on here, possibly in text-only mode or something. Otherwise, I'll take the database backups and remove anything that isn't the post array and put it up and maybe someone can make a nice page for it, kinda like the older Lemmings Forums.
No, that's not his problem. He offered hosting for Lemmings Forums.
Damn, There is another Mr. Here... Umm.... How about sir... Can I be a Sir Kiwi?
I did not post much on the other forums, although, some of you know me as the chap with the huge lemmings collection.
It never sold, so eh.... I keep my grubby little hands on if for now...
In the mean time, the issue at hand; I am glad this place happened... It was well needed.
You chose that name. You wanted Sir Kiwi, you should of used that username.
How about this...
Hello, I am glad the forum is back...
...
Hey Mr Kiwi, welcome to the forums!
If you
click here, you'll see the page where you can change your display name... I think it can be anything as long as it's not taken!
Adam
Thanks for the welcome, I was kidding about the name.

I guess the sarcasm didn't translate as well as I thought.
I wanna keep this name. =D
Sarcasm doesn't really come across that well on forums! It's a useful bit of info to keep if you ever decide to change your name though!

Welcome back! I remember I was going to buy some stuff off you but I never followed through with my offer because I had some unexpected expenses pop up and couldn't afford it any more.
Hehe, no worries... in retrospect; I am kinda glad to still have my collection... Might even add some more to it...
I remember a few years ago me, you and lemmings universe guy were looking into something... I think it was like a lemmings portal; for some reason it never happened.
I am glad this finally came to fruition.

Now I have to find a use for all my content... =(
Hehe, I was bad off in college. Eating rice and vegetable broth everyday for like 5 months; selling my lemmings collection was a tempting prospect.
As for the avatar, Glad you like it.
I love kiwi birds... Got one tattooed on my foot... Don't ask, it was for a girl I liked. I looks really cool tho, so I don't regret it.
Mr Kiwi, your avatar reminds me of a sign I saw on the internet a few months ago..
Hehe, that is fantastic.
Is that sign for real? Wow. Amazing.
Oh No! No more challenges!
Hey, I didn't start it this time
Is that sign for real? Wow. Amazing.
Yup! It's somewhere in Queensland, Australia. I'll try and remember exactly where - I know it's not too far away from Cairns.
Australia, and more importantly to me, New Zealand a lot further away from me than they are from you! I've got family in Australia, so that's how I found out about the sign. Whilst we're still incredibly far off topic, I'm going to show you a picture of the best sign I've seen in the UK.
O_o
That's a strange sign. "Sign not in use?"
Geez, where are they going with that?
Yeah, I was pretty sure that was temporary. But anyhows I have the database backed up and now I should probably figure out what to do with it.
Wow, that was a rather poorly executed transition. I've practically given up on this until Google today finally yields the new location for the forum. I'm glad it's back up though.
I didn't actually intend to shut the old one off so fast, but that's what the old hostguy did. Unfortunately, a lot of the Lemmings sites out there are no longer updated so a lot of links are going to point to the old places. Re-establishing this outside of the core community is going to be an issue.
Hey, I have an idea. Start by redoing your affiliates list. You could a link banner to tLSb again, then tell them that the site is at a different location. I saw you must have never notified them when your site went off ISAmedia!
I'm still considering a good way to do the affiliate bar. My old old forums used to run them along the bottom near the copyright, so as to not be too intrusive, but in fact that's almost unnoticeable. There's not really a good in-between.
Can't you do it between the part with the site navigation tree (not the buttons) and the news? That's a good place.
It seems it's back, then. It had vanished after about a week, but there it is again.
I have the raw database, and I'm just deciding what I can do with it. Before it goes up anywhere it needs stripped of passwords, personal messages, and some other stuff, but once that data is removed I dunno if I can still properly feed it to a SMF setup.
Digging through this, apparently there was something with avatar sizes. Is there a reason for limited signature sizes? It can be a little annoying when putting BBC code in your signature.
What do you mean by BBC?

I think of it at the British Broadcasting Corporation.
Bulletin Board Code. Or, as Dullstar's written it, "Bulletin Board Code code."

The main problem here is links - Lemmings content pages tend to have rather long URLs. The three in my sig are all 50+ characters, plus 12 each for the url tags. It adds up
quite fast.
Whoops!

I know, those add up very fast. I actually tried using the tinyurl thing but... it doesn't really work on these forums.
