Wow, some impressive levels!
Only one rule 2 level. I didn't expect that. Well, 1,5 really since Willem's level(s) is a bit of all in one. It's also the first level I was able to solve. I'm talking about Willem's "Day Of The Daredevils! Part I" (V1) It's not difficult but I like it!
Edit: I also solved Crane's "T.E.E.T.H." (V1)
(Probably) backroutes for Namida's "Reach-Around" (V1) and Dullstar's "Shimmier Sort" (V1):
T.E.E.T.H. is intended - well done. P.S. See if you can guess what it stands for!
I'm planning on streaming the contest levels in a couple of weeks when the updates have died down. I'll let you know when I know more details.
Also, to clear up any confusion on why I have a withdrawn level. I made a level for all 3 rules but I already submitted to R2 so I asked to have R1 and R3 instead. However, I said the level could be posted anyway in case anyone wanted to play it anyway, especially in contest videos/streams.

(Probably) backroutes for Namida's "Reach-Around" (V1) and Dullstar's "Shimmier Sort" (V1):
Backroute indeed for my level; I've uploaded an update that should fix this.
It seems like I got a two weeks' furlough at just the right time :)
@CraneSpoiler
T.E.E.T.H.
It was quite easy and also entertaining level. :D
S.C.R.O.O.G.E.
Nice combination of all three kinds of lemmings : normal, zombie, neutral :lem-mindblown:
I attached two solutions for this level. First one got talisman and save some skills so I guess this might be a backroute. And second one, I used all the skills and looks more intended to me.
@FlopsySpoiler
Fun With Flags
At first, I was quite surprised to see some lemmings died with 'LET'S GO' sound!
It was enjoyable level and I was stumped for a while and I think the position of the builder was the key to solve this level.
Who Ya Gonna Call? Knuckles The Echidna!
I din't use a shimmier and a platformer so this can be a backroute I think. But letting neutral lemmings to gather pickup skills and to activate the buttons are so creative! I like the concept of this level!
Who Wants To Be The Flopsy?
It was quite challenging. I could see how strong the stoner skill is in this level.
In general, all your levels used tilisets that I have never seen before. It was really fun to play. I like the cute ghosts in your rule3 level especially. :D
@NamidaSpoiler
Reach-Around
I think I backrouted this level. (Attached replay is for V2)
@NieSchSpoiler
Perpetuum Mobilem
This level remind me your previous level "The Yippee Finale" from your pack :D Not that difficult but it has some clever trick in it and I like that
Me, Myself and I
I made several attempts on this level but had no luck yet. Attached replay is my best attempt that could had been successful if 5 more seconds is given :(
@WillemSpoiler
Day Of The Daredevils!
Beautiful looking level! I didn't use a miner for your part2 level so this can be a minor backroute maybe??
IchoTolotSpoiler
It's The Name Of The Fame
Wow this level is so creative I must say. When I assigned cloner+walker to a shimmy lemming, I wish I could see the path of the glider when walker is assigned.(like I can see expected path when assigning glider). But this is just my opinion and not a comment on this level :D I really enjoyed the level itself
Xeno Menace
Oh man, This tileset looks scary. :lem-shocked: Still, I like the level and skills used in this level!
DullstarSpoiler
Shimmier Sort
My solution seems really backrouty :(
SQron188Spoiler
Liandri Ironworks & Nuclear Fission
I guess my solution is intended. Using stackers to make turn around point for gliders is so clever
Yep, that's another backroute for my level.
Both solutions to Shimmier Sort are backroutes. It doesn't really surprise me that there are egregious backroutes in the level - I'm pretty out of practice with level creation and I rushed it a bit to finish it up before the deadline.
EDIT: An updated version of the level is available.
Thanks Armani for playing my levels, especially the withdrawn one :)
Fun With Flags is exactly as intended, glad it at least stumped you for a while.
Who Ya Gonna Call is a back route though, I've uploaded v2 to the update topic.
Who Wants To Be The Flopsy is acceptable, I guess I chose to withdraw the right level because this level would be really hectic to fix. Sadly this isn't exactly as intended but enough of the skills were used to be acceptable.
@Armani
Both solutions to my levels are intended/acceptable variants! great job!
My rule 2 level is kinda open anyway as long as it's no glaring break from the somewhat intended path.
QuoteI wish I could see the path of the glider when walker is assigned.(like I can see expected path when assigning glider).
Already ahead of you as i had the same issue ;) : https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=4541.0

You also need to give credit to SQron here then, as he created the tileset.
I will be streaming the contest levels on Sunday 12th January at the usual time when we do multiplayer stuff (7pm UTC), this will give plenty of time for the updates to be ironed out.
I'll give a reminder closer to the time :)
Thanks for the kind and helpful feedback Armani. It's incredible how fast you come up with al these solutions.

I'm glad that "Me, Myself and I" is giving you more of a challenge. I'm sure you will find a solution soon. :)
Hey Armani - thanks for testing the levels. T.E.E.T.H. is intended - well done. Both of the S.C.R.O.O.G.E. solutions are backroutes, so I'll have to have a think about that one.
About Armani's "Supernova":
Spoiler
Aaaargh! I have tried so many times now but I still haven't solved the level. I was so close... With two more seconds I would have made it.

Spoiler
That's a nice solution! An unexpected use of the Platformer but a good one and didn't break the level at all! This level has a time limit anyway, so I'd like to keep the rest not as restrictive.
Cheers, mate!
Solution for Namida's "Reach-Around" (V3):
Closer, but still a backroute. I guess that's what I get for trying to make the execution slightly easier. :P
I guess this is almost the same backroute, for "Reach-Around" (V4):

The key thing is having to use another bomber to stop the miner, so you can re-use him for his climber skill - but I don't want this to be possible to do before the miner makes (most of) his tunnel.

At first, this level had no time limit. And I found myself a backroute and it took longer than the intended solution so I added time limit.
I think you tried exactly the same backroute that I found (I saw the screenshot you posted and I'm quite sure about this :D)
The intended solution has 10~15 seconds left over.
Here are some hints!
Spoiler
The title of the level is Supernova and you can see a nebula at top right of the level where all the lemmings get together.
You may want some destructive skills but you have nothing. But really?
@Armani:
Spoiler
I did think of that (the title and the high amount of lemmings were clues) but I did not yet get the execution right. I'll try again.
(My backroute involved getting the timing right so that 2 lemmings walked over the same trap at the same time, so one lemming survived.)
Solution for Armani's "Supernova" V1 :)

As you expected, that's not an intended solution.
But I like your solution and thank you for finding a backroute :D
I will add fire trap to block it.
And also I will remove time limit as time limit do nothing as a result.
Hah, I know that feeling. I've gotten that close with Supernova too - still haven't found the trick.

Intended solution to my level (Reach-Around).
I found this solution to V2 of the Sandopolis level, but it works unmodified on V3 as well. I don't use the Miner or the Shimmier.
Ignore the Rule 1_05__Crane file in the ZIP above; it was a failed attempt.
Completed a few other levels too (the Rule 1_05__Crane file on this post is a solution that works!). I completed the Rule 2 level without using any Miners.
@Crane: Your solution to "Perpetuum Mobilem" is intended. Your solution to "Me, Myself and I" is a very clever alternative solution that I wasn't aware of. Great job!
I do like very clever solutions - thank you!
Crane's solution to Shimmier Sort is another backroute. I was hoping to avoid having the entire level made out of steel or one-way arrows but it might be unavoidable.
Ok Crane has back routed Who Ya Gonna Call yet again so I'll upload V4 to updates now!
Backrouted again, I'm afraid.
And fixed again....
Not fixed!
*sigh*
uploaded v6 now
Is this any closer to what you had in mind? Splitting up the Climber and Glider pickups does unfortunately take a lot out of the puzzle, as does the placement of the Digger pickup.

Well done! Clever solution, part of it the same as Crane's.

Crane's solution to Who Ya Gonna Call is STILL a back route.
Armani's solution doesn't work on the latest version so I assume that was a back route also.
That is a backroute, but not for the reason you think! V3 available.
As I'm seeing this backroute battle raging, I will delay my playthrough for ~1-2 days so I can give the new somewhat stable versions another go and not just end up recording a very temporary one. :P
I am starting to seriously suspect Shimmier Sort may not be possible to fix without completely destroying the aesthetics, unless I create a completely custom style that introduces steel versions of the poles.
I don't know how to fix this level. I'm running out of things that are possible to fix without also blocking off the intended solution. If anyone wants to take a stab at fixing it, I've included a replay of the intended solution. I don't think I will be releasing any more updates for this level unless I somehow magically think of something. I'm not sure I can make convincing looking steel pieces and it's probably too late to add a new style dependency.
If including this replay is against the rules, then you can consider the level withdrawn.
QuoteIf including this replay is against the rules, then you can consider the level withdrawn.
It would be against the rules to post this during the voting phase (unless your level had already been eliminated at the time) as it would count as "discussing the level on the forums", but posting it at any time during the playing phase - including between updates closing and the playing phase ending - I would think is fine?

I think you gave too many constructive skills and they are being abused for backroutes.
So, here's my opinion on how to block such backroutes
1) -1 platformer and +1 cloner for compensate. Move steels to the right.
This way, the glider is stuck in infinite loop so the floater don't have to platform over the exit. He can just fall and climb to the right.
Spoiler
(https://i.imgur.com/zAXqhTU.png)
Left picture is fixed version from me and right picture is original version
After the floater climb to the right, you can clone the glider and bash the one way arrow wall.
2) -1 builder and +1 cloner for compensate.
On your solution, two builders on the right side of the map can be replaced by one builder+cloner
So in conclusion..
Spoiler
-1 platformer
-1 builder
+2 cloner
+2 save requirement
move steels to the right a bit
I attached level file and my solution replay for it.
Hope this will at least help you improve your level. :D
This solution any better for "Who you gonna call? Knuckles the Echidna!"?
Spoiler
I would suggest you find a way to keep the Climber and Glider pick-ups together, because when you get them both, it's so tempting to apply both at once to the worker lemming so he matches the neutrals.
Alright, played through the regular level today and I must say I had a lot of fun!
I attached my replays and starting tomorrow my playthrough videos will start to pop up as well. There will be 4 videos for now.
The withdrawn level will be bundled together when I show of the solutions to my own levels. :)
I have high hopes that I finally found the intended solution to Flopsy's R3 level though! That one also took the longest to solve this time. ;)
Your solution to Supernova is 100% intended. Great job
And I uploaded fixed version to my rule 3 level. :(
I want to enforce player to let a single normal lemming go down to get pickup skill and double back to release the neutrals.

I can now confirm that IchoTolot has indeed back routed my R3 level, still no intended solve of this level throughout this contest.
Apologies for the delay but the part 4 video showing the solution only came up today.
While I take on board the opinions about the SFX in that level, I could quieten the sounds slightly, I'm not going to change them.
Just a reminder that I will be streaming the contest levels this Sunday at 7pm UTC on YouTube.
I am completely blind to the other contest levels except my own, I have merely glanced at them and not attempted to solve them.
Resolved Flopsy's level. :)
Spoiler
This could be closer, but that one pixel-precise shimmier+miner+digger action combo at the end still seems fishy.
About loud SFX:
When solving I am usually "inside my flow" and if suddenly a new unexpected loud noise appreas (may it be a hidden trap or in this case a custom exit unlock sound), it comes close to a jumpscare to me. So let's say I am an easy target to throw off in this regard as suddenly breaking my train of thought makes me jump.
You may call me easily scared and you're totally correct.
In fact my roomate wanted to ask a question at some point while I was programming with music on my ears and I just got totally scared when he suddenly tapped my shoulder. :XD:
So, I don't dislike the ghostbusters theme, it's just any louder unexpected noise while I am thinking just totally catches me offguard. :P

It sounds like based on what you have said that you may have back routed the level again but I'll be able to confirm later tonight.
I know you probably weren't against the concept of the SFX in my R3 level, I'm trying to take what people say with a pinch of salt now.
I was rather proud of this R3 level when I made it because the theming all fit together. Because knuckles glides in Sonic, it fit the contest rule. The ghost busters theme came about by accident and it was because I didn't think the Sandopolis buttons didn't really fit the purpose.
Anyway, I appreciate the feedback really, they are too loud.

Doesn't the Sandopolis tileset have steel terrain pieces? I feel they would be neater as platforms than the one-way up arrows.
As expected IchoTolot's solution is yet again a back route. I didn't even know a shimmier could do that!
Icho's solution is a backroute, but definitely an interesting one. I will still try to fix it, but it might not be the worst thing if it can't be resolved.

Resolved the 3 updated level.
I am sure Dullstar's level is intended now and I love the solution!
In Flopsy's level I now got a shimmier and a miner leftover.
IchoTolot's solution to Shimmier Sort is an acceptable variant.
Discussion of IchoTolot's Solution
I didn't realize that the walker could be used to save a cloner early on, but it's compensated by needing to use the cloner to get a lemming facing the correct direction later. This is secondary to the actual puzzle, so I don't think enforcing the "correct" order would improve the level, thus I consider it an acceptable variant.
A bit of developer commentary on the level (warning: may contain minor solution hints)
It's been a while
When I started the level, my design goal was to have a level featuring a shimmier at the beginning, which would be cloned at different times to create lemmings with different combinations of permanent skills. I settled somewhat early on with making a climber/floater and climber/glider, but I had a bit of difficulty deciding how to enforce this. This is why the button is where it is, although it took me several tries to get the design right due to a bit of tunnel vision with the solution - I got so used to using certain skills in certain places that I wasn't thinking of other places I could maybe use them! The idea was that a glider would glide off the climbable obstacle and therefore miss the button, while a floater would hit the button. The locked exit, thus, wasn't something that was planned from the start - it was only added as a way to make sure both a floater and glider were required. Several ways of bypassing this obstacle were found, which was a bit frustrating for me to fix, because I needed to find a way to prevent players from bypassing the puzzle elements by bashing through things they weren't supposed to bash through, but I also wanted things to look decent, which limited how much I could use steel. I also designed the level to be a one-screener at a 1920x1080 resolution, which meant that fixes needed to be compact. Part of me feels compelled to make sure the level is either small enough to fit on one screen or big enough to justify requiring the player to scroll.
It's been a while since I participated in one of the design contests. I often have trouble coming up with any compelling ideas for the contests (or levels in general, for that matter), but early on with Rule 3 I was able to come up with a vague idea that I thought might be workable. When I was younger I used to put out a high volume of levels, but most of them were bad. I think now, even though my level quantity is much lower, my level quality has improved greatly - at least once all the backroutes are found and patched!
Realistically, the best thing about submitting a level to the contest, in my opinion, is the feedback you can get for an individual level. Levels in the Random Level Sharing thread tend not to get much attention, and creating an entire pack's worth of levels can take a while, so the contest is a good way to practice, find out what people like and don't like, and start getting a feel for what people do to break your level so you can get better at testing.
I'm streaming the contest levels later today in just under 6 hours on my YouTube channel
Hope to see you all there

Spoiler
Rule 1
Armani's Supernova - What can I say, this solution was truly difficult to spot. I honestly couldn't believe the solution when I found it and I think it is 100% intended. I didn't say positive things on the stream (don't worry nothing negative either) but looking back, this was one of the better ones in the pack! Good effort, welcome to the Lemmings community!
Crane's T.E.E.T.H - No solve, I'm sorry if I was overly critical of this level, no hard feelings
namida's Reach Around - I really liked the return to what made Lemmings Plus packs so great, this one really had me stumped for a while but in a good way, the steel really threw me off and I was trying to make it part of the solution for a long time. One of the better levels in the contest.
NieSch's Perpetuum Mobilem - This one caught me out and I thought I solved it before the infinite loop on the teleport brought me down to Earth again! This was another nice level, it was very hard to solve!
WillLem's Day of the Daredevils part 1 - This was a nice little puzzle to finish the rank off, very reminiscent of my LP of your Xmas Lemmings pack :)
Rule 2
IchoTolot's It's the name of the fame - This was a great level by you, I actually enjoyed it once I got going on it, very interesting non contruction skill level :)
Rule 3
Armani's I'll be back for sure - I'm pretty sure this is a back route but it did use pretty much all of the skills, I did enjoy trying to solve this for what it is worth, very nice concept for a level.
Crane's SCROOGE - Did not even attempt this, I did not want to be raging mad during the stream and the zombies were a sure fire way to make me rage. Sorry.
Dullstar's Shimmier Sort - I did get a lot of help with this one but I did really like the solution once it fell into place. I don't think I would have solve this without help though, as with Crane, I don't tend to solve your levels either most of the time!
IchoTolot's Xeno Menace - Didn't spend much time on this, it was too Hard for Flopsy for my liking and I was short on time. No solve.
NieSch's Me, Myself and I - This was a very tight level to beat in the time limit, you were there to watch me play it anyway. I did enjoy it in the end and it was a great level overall.
SQron's Llandri Ironworks and Nuclear Fission - I didn't spend much time on this either, I didn't understand how to even approach this one. Your levels have really been getting much harder in recent contests and I have not been able to solve your contest levels as of late. This may or may not be a compliment, this level was ok but I struggled with it. No solve.
WillLem's Day of the DareDevil's part 2 - This was the last level of the stream and it felt very similar to your Rule 1 level, you would have been better off not submitting this level again for a different rule but that is just my opinion. It helped uplift me after being beaten by the 4 levels I couldn't solve though so positive for that!
@Flopsy
Thanks a lot for playing my levels Flopsy!
And thank you for all your feedback, comments, and also welcoming!
If I had known you were streaming yesterday, I would have definitely been there. So sad. :(
I will watch video on your youtube channel soon.
Your solution to my rule1 level is 100% intended and as you expected, your solution for rule3 is not intended. But somewhat close to intended.
Some comments on my levels to everyone.
I'm serving in the military now and two weeks of furlough ends tommorow.(There is mandatory draft system in my country.)
I can still read and post comments but I cannot watch replays or update my levels.
So I'm sorry that I can't give any comments and feedback about my and other people's levels anymore.
So here I attached intended solution for my two levels.
"Supernova" is for v2 and "I'll be back for sure" is for v3.
I hope all of you enjoy the remaining contest. :D
I resolved the updated levels. I think more levels are intended now. :)
I attached my up-to-date replay collction.
I can't even get past Armani's Supernova!! :forehead: :crylaugh:
Gonna have another go at this tomorrow. Sleep time now!

Well done, the best news I've had today is I don't need to fix Who Ya Gonna Call this time :)
100% intended solution.

Don't feel bad about it; you're not the only one! Lots of difficult levels in this pack. Mine aren't easy too. Next time I will make at least one easier one.
Intended solutions to my levels:
Both of IchoTolot's solutions to my levels were intended - well done. Doubly well done for earning the talisman too!
Spoiler
You are pretty much guaranteed the talisman (with less than a second to go!) as long as you release the Blocker at the right moment (between the 2nd and 3rd neutral Lemmings) and are efficient in the placement of your skills so no Lemmings turn around in the Fencer's tunnel.

I'd dare say that this is arguably one of the hardest levels in the contest, I was able to solve it but I was getting help on the contest stream to eventually arrive at the solution!
I had a look over the levels, though I was only able to solve 3 of them so far. Replays for those + intended solution for my level attached. All three of the ones I solved (Crane's rule 1, and both of WillLem's levels) were quite nice levels.
Intended solution, well done. And thank you for the compliment. I like to think T.E.E.T.H. is easier than my usual affair!
Completed the latest version of Shimmier Sort. Of all things, it took me a while to work out how to stop the Climbers from going off the right of the screen. Nice little arrangement in the end.
Uploaded my updated solutions and the solutions to my own levels to Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS32FRH6-bg&feature=youtu.be
Also solved Flopsy's withdrawn level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3SO9LkoUBY&feature=youtu.be
So... voting phase soon?
