General Discussion needed a place for general Lemmings conversation. Here it is.
Why have Lemming's green hair? ;D
Good question. Um, maybe because green seemed like a good color for hair? XD
Maybe they're new generation rebellion lemmings...or they just need to learn how to style their hair...then again, the green hair goes well with their skin and shirt. Imagine lemmings with normal hair...*bleh!* :P
because they were swimming too long in the water in the 2nd terrain set x_x
Because Tumbleweed travelled back in time, drew Zogg, a lemming saw it, liked the colour, and hit his head on it. Zogg then came to life and cursed all Lemmings to have green hair. Then Zogg returned to just a drawing.
...O_o...then Doofus gave them clothing X_X
And it happens they were intelligent creatures as well, until Circle stole all of their intelligence.
we could write a history of the lemming empire. :???:
I think Lem'ka already did a few attempts, but I could'nt say for sure...
Yes you could, you read them over my shoulder :P
But those were different. I think.
Hey! I drew a picture of a lemming! It's based off of one on the box.

which do you like best :???:
Lemmings had green hair because the PC's EGA palette had the first 3 colours of white/blue/green.
Lemmings were only 4 colours (2 bitplanes) so the choice was blue hair/green trousers or green hair/blue trousers.
Boring he! :)
I thought it's something like that. :D
I think Lemmings have green hair because it's their style.
Why do Lemmings wear blue suits?

Why Lemmings and not another rodent?

The real lemmings are notorious for running off cliffs and committing suicide (Although I do not believe they do so intentionally). The green-haired Lemmings in the computer game do the same thing. Psygnosis probably had this in mind when they designed the game.
Are you ignoring me? I'm asking this question again:
Why do lemmings wear blue suits?
Because four times six equals seventy-two.

Mike said it! Do you have problems with reading? It's because of the limitations to the EGA palette. They had no other choice.
I just found this nice website: http://www.smbhq.com/users/snss/Comics/Comix.htm
Check "The Adventures of Lemmy the Lemming" out.
Look at that (image taken from the website):

I wouldn't be so sure about that.
After all, Lemmings was not born as a PC game, it was originally written for Amiga, with vastly superior graphics capabilities compared to the first primitive PC's.
And Lemmings had the same color scheme there, so technical reasons based on EGA limits imposed much later don't make much sense.
Mike actually worked on Lemmings, so I'd be inclined to believe him - he's probably talking specifically about the PC version.
Actually, the first prototype was done on the PC by Russell Kay about a year before the Amiga one even started.
Both games were developed side by side (along with the ST one), and since the Amiga and ST versions had total control over palettes, we were forced to use the PC as the limiting factor.
And yes..... I do know what Im talking about :D
Mike, I wanted to ask you something:
In some old magazines you see very often Lemmings-Illustrations. Are they still somehow available as Cliparts or so?
Ah, and if there weren't limitations on the palette, what colour would the lemmings have?
Do you mean the concept art? There are scans available of them around... just have a search..
Search for "lemmings concept" and use images on google, they'll come up there.
If you look at my first animation.... it was blue hair, and red jump suit... no idea why... I think that was part of t
the default palette of DPaint. I guess it would have been close to that, otherwise, Ive no idea.
Not the concept art (I only found the two from LU). I mean for example this one (http://www.pcplayer.de/bilder/history/hefte/121993H.jpg). Or this one. (http://www.pcplayer.de/bilder/history/spieletests/lemmings21.jpg)
if i'm wrong please tell e buti've taken graphics from lemmings, put 'em in paint, and zoomed in with the magnifying glass and it looks like they have an extremely memory taking graphic of many, many things. so, if they had those graphics, then i don't think they would be worrying much about only having three colors to choose from. then again, if you were making one version that fit computer and amiga, then you might run into some problems such as only three colors that work on both things.... I don't know alot about computers, but i know some. please tell me if i'm wrong about that.
These drawings were "based" on the con concept art done by Gary Timmons. They've just been updated by other artists based on the original colours etc...
What's concept art and why is it different from other art? :???:
Concept art is pictures to show the artist's ideas so everyone else working on the game knows what they're actually working on. Normal art is just meant to look good.
